I'm going to order some gauges to monitor things with my car, most likely from Autometer. Oil pressure and water temperature for sure. What is the prefered type, electrical or mechanical?

Also should I run an ammeter or voltage gauge?

I prefer mechanical and I have a voltmeter and ammeter installed.
also have in cab fuel pressure gauge and wideband.

For better accuracy, get 270° sweep gauges for oil pressure and water temp... For amps and volts it's ok to use 90° sweep of the needle...

I like mechanical best for oil pressure and temperature...

Obviously you need electrical gauges for amps and volts....

I went with electrical gauges (AutoMeter Z-Series (water temp, oil pressure, voltage & tachometer)). I bypassed my factory Ammeter.
