Scream'n 318 ?

-
heck,..that stock 318 cam work better with that big ol super bad 2 bbl! lol
Earlier in this thread, I was told it won't matter, as long as I use my 302 heads, she'll go 12.6's on 7 cylinders!!!! But then I was told if I use cast heads it won't matter, cast heads won't scream anyways!!!!! But then I was told it's all shot to pots if I don't use a solid cam, because hydraulics are done at 5k rpms!!!!!! But then I was told if I don't at least have 11.5 to 1 compression, I'll be getting milk at the store as long as there are no hills to pull to get the milk!!!!!!!! But then I was told none of it will matter without oiling mods if I plan to turn more than 5k rpms. But then...... I'm out of breathe :(

You're the one that started with the "I'm gonna build a 318 that likes to move it move it" and then stated 7000+rpm. I was trying to help by steering you away from anything hydraulic. I haven't read through this entire thread but it sounds like another very mundane build is underway. J.Rob

Look at the HP 273's. They aparently screamed! I have yet to have mine much over 5 grand and I haven't seen any video proof of any stockers revving to 6 or 7 like the old bench racers have said. But, they have a solid cam, dual point, and 4 barrel. Those three things will help them rev to the moon. LMFAO

LOL... understand, I'm not attacking nobody. I'm just having fun....

A moderate duration solid cam and well ported cylinder heads will do the trick. But this sounds like a poor mans power improvement plan. Kind f like what the MP manual suggests to sonic you find a good core to raid parts from.

Raid the 360 for the following karts for your 318......
Or
Raid the following parts from a 383 or 440 for your 361..

The interpretation of "SCREAM" is different to every car guy. I was pretty clear that the history books wouldn't be re-written :) I told flyfish he wouldn't be pulling his low 10 second stroker for this 318.. LOL.

Just think'n of the thrust when you crack that low end torque of that 2bbl/small cam and she shoots ahead utilizing the 3.23's and 2100 stall converter.... Should I order the neck brace now ???

My 273-4 would regularly exceed the 6K of the lousy stock SW tach that came with it. Not sure if the tach was just slow reacting but I could bounce the needle past 6 and it still wanted more. stroke is identical in a 318. No reason it could not rev like a "tight little 273" that everyone gets a warm feeling up their leg for. you want a quick 318, 4+ gears in the rear and 7K redline, just get good rod bolts.

when he started this thread thought he was intending to build that 500 hp 318! hell was even a lil exsighted to follow along! just another 500 post thread on a warmed over stock 318,..luke warm that is!

This 68 belongs to my cousin. Its been the same set for over 20 years now. We bracket raced it for 5-6years with no issues. Simple set up 318 with ported X heads purple shaft cam 292/508. I don't remember the intake but it has a 650 Edlebrock Carb. 727 with a 8inch converter and 4.88 gear. She's a little tired now but still constant 8.2-8.30 in the 1/8th and screaming 12.9-13.0 1/4 mile passes.

sharp car! Thanks for posting!

To me screaming means " slow me down, I'm out of power "

some numbers posted by Hot Rod a while back. These may be interesting to somebody.... :)
  • Stock 360 2bbl intake - average 238 cfm's
  • Edelbrock RPM intake - average 255 cfm's
But you can't take "CFM's" to the bank and expect to CA$H in.... Runner shape and design will be mighty important to how the engine performs. But for the sake of CFM's, you can see that with some thought and porting, the 360 2bbl could be a viable intake for a 318. I can tell you, we set up a 318 with a 360 2bbl intake and carb, dual exhaust and all else stock. Pretty amazing. I'll just say it was the "fastest" 318 2bbl I've ever driven :)
