71 dart GT?

-
1255 my book says

That’s correct, although it’s a % of total production so that may not be the exact number.

I have two ‘71 GT’s. Both were in Bruce’s registry when it was going, #65 and #69 in the registry. My first one ii s Butterscotch (a high impact color for ‘71) and the other is metallic bronze. Both 318 auto cars.

The association between 2 door Dart Customs and Dart GTs is, I think, a 1970 thing. I've never seen a 2 door 71 Dart Custom at all.

I really like the "blackout" 1971 grille color pattern a lot better than the 1970 silver fins, so all my modified 70 Darts have one. The only one with the stock grille is my 70 Swinger which is almost exactly stock. It's hard to pass off a small block with dual quads as stock anyway. I changed the grille in my 1970 Custom in 1976 and never looked back...

is the Dart GT emblem on 71 cars all one piece? I searched for Dart GT emblem last night and went through the pictures and there is somebody selling a pair of emblems that say GT, and look like they were rocker mounted but there doesn't seem to be a "Dart" in front of the GT. He wants $365 fort the pair.

Hey Tony, I'm up near Parksville. I don't have a GT, however I have a 2 door '70 Dart Custom. I know the green one you posted from Nanaimo, he has a motorhome 440 in it. Mine is also green, cool to see another oddball Custom/GT on the island. There used to be a '70 GT in the Qualicum area as well.

Oh man nice cars thx for sharing. Mines from the Comox valley originally gold. Is the other green one a legit GT? I’m just really trying to rallye together all the dart guys on this thread to see if anybody knows a guy who’s seen more 71GT’s but I love all darts, this is my 7th one from 67-72. I’ll post my 72 I had. It went to Duncan 10 years or more ago

They’re 2 pieces per side. That eBay seller has had those emblems listed since at least 2008, I bookmarked them all the way back when I bought my butterscotch GT. They typically sell for about $200 for a full set, as in, all 4 pieces. So they’re massively overpriced, and of course they’re only half of what you need.

They’re really hard to find, but, there also aren’t many people that need them.

72 blunblu care to share pictures of both your cars?

They’re old pictures, the butterscotch car is almost ready to go back together after a bunch of chassis stiffening and an engine, transmission and suspension rebuild. Haven’t done much with the bronze car at all, too many projects.

Marvin - I had seen pictures of that GT before. It is how my GT started - F4 green with a black vinyl top. The only thing that I can't figure out is the placement of the DartGT badge way back on the quarter panel...

That is all true but even though I pay pretty close attention to this type of stuff on the interweb I don't think I have ever seen these badges for sale, or even in the swap meet at Chryslers at Carlisle. It's such a key piece of these cars, I wouldn't be able to resist if I had a 71. If one got damaged or stolen, where would you ever find another?

The GT is my son's car - forum member 'lord of frisco' - and the badge was moved to the rear by a former owner.....we do not know why......

Btw: The Vinyl Top is green...a triple green GT

I’ve come across a few complete sets and some singles since I bought my first ‘71 GT in 2008. They don’t come up often, but they are out there. I’ve managed to come up with spares for my cars. And like I said, they usually aren’t all that expensive. Super rare, but, not a ton of demand either.

Which is why that same eBay seller still has those emblems for sale 13 years after I saw them the first time. Listed at the same price too. But yeah, I’ve put together a couple sets in that time and I don’t think I’ve spent more than what he’s asking for that partial set. He’s just hoping to take advantage of somebody that doesn’t know better.

I've seen those emblems, which have been for sale forever, for the same $365!

Here's a '70 GT that was in Qualicum Beach, here on Vancouver Island. I haven't seen it in a long time, but an older gentleman owned it and he was asking somewhere around $30K about 15 years ago.

And a '71 Dart GT that lives in the Courtenay area, again on Vancouver Island. I've seen this one a lot, the owner brought it to our West Coast Mopars show in Coombs a couple years ago.
