Best E58 360HP Camshaft....your guesses

So to recap;
you will be using the 89 360 bottom end no changes,
Stock J heads,
ldb4 intake and thermoquad
in a 4-speed E-body with 2.76s
on a very tight budget

Ok
problem #1
is your Scr is not likely to come in at 8.4, but more like 7.8, so your cylinder pressure is already in the basement. A bigger cam will just kill even more bottom end.
Problem #2
the 2.76s will keep your no compression engine, sucked out until about 40 mph, in first gear which is about 3500 rpm,
Problem #3
those same 2.76s will hit 60mph at 5500. Read my lips; one gear to 60 mph, with a no-compression engine in a 3700 pound E-body, is gonna be sun-dial sloooooow.
But ok, put a bigger cam in it and be even slower.

But, I know you didn't come here to be insulted so, please forgive me; I'm trying to make a point; and here it comes;
What are you expecting from your car?

If you are building a cruiser, 2.76s and the 4-speed are the best choice. Put the entire 318 topend and cam on top of your 360 bottom end including the 318 cam, and yur done.

Otherwise;
the very first thing you gotta do is get rid of the 2.76s, cuz with them, on your budget, it doesn't matter where else you spend money, they will keep your car sloooow.
If you wanna be quick,in the zero to 60mph contest, you gotta run two gears and be revved out when you get there.
If 3.23s are gonna be the limit, then you gotta engineer your combo to hit 60 at about 4900, with a power peak around 4700. That will be a cam of about [email protected]
You might find that on a 260hydraulic cam, say something like 260/266/108.
But in your lo-compression engine, I would NOT run a hydro, cuz it will kill pressure that you cannot afford to lose. So I'd still run a [email protected] but the advertized needs to be something like [email protected] tappet rise after the lash is taken up.
But before you do that, you gotta get your pressure up.
7.8 Scr is NOT gonna cut it.
8.8 is still gonna be doggie
9.4 is where the engine wants to be,with an Ica of about 56*, but
9.2 will get you in the ballpark .
It's a long way from 7.8 to 9.2
On a budget, I would totally put closed chamber 318 heads on that 360 with probably the 318 cam, and put the 3.23s in right away first thing.

But I wouldn't run 3.23s in that lo-compression combo at all,lol. The low-pressure engine will be soft enough as is, never mind having to rev it up to get it rolling.
If you insist on running a hydraulic cam, you will need one with the fastest ramps you can find, to keep the pressure up. Stick with name-brand cams.

Happy HotRodding.
Jesus A/J you killed me right there....i was thinking to go with a stock replacement 429/444 cam ( 340 c.i ) for this 360 , its a 79 not 89 , comes from a little red express , planning to have a nice cruiser and reliable car , of course i want a bit of power...but what can be the best if i dont want to open the engine , 3.23 / 3.55 / 3.91s with big 295,50r15 ? I dont want a dog , my fantasy is to beat a stock 1971 cuda 340 4 speed , the best that hot rod mag ran was 14.18 e.t. , i want to enter the 13.99s with my car and be reliable as hell !!! AND ON A LOW LOW DOLLAR BUDGET !!!!! AHAHAHAHA
