What oil pan if using magnum timing cover?

Any LA 360 oil pan will work, but there is a catch. The LA pans have two notches on the bottom front of the pan where the timing cover meets the pan rail.

You can hammer them out flat with a dolly and use the one piece Magnum gasket with a touch of sealer there and in the corners. Or, leave the pan as is and use the 4 piece LA gasket set and silicone. I like Superformance gaskets.

I like Permatex Ultra Seal, but what ever you use, clean the parts with brake clean or lacquer thinner before applying it to remove the oil residue.

I can tell you if you use the one piece Magnum gasket and the LA oil pan without doing the above, you will have a big oil leak that is hard to see where it is coming from. because the gasket has flaps that cover the opening from the notches.

I RTV’ed my LA pan and used an unmodified Magnum one piece pan gasket without issue.

My preference would be to fix the pan so the notch was gone, but needed to get mine together so I went the RTV round and haven’t looked back.

Milodon sells a one piece gasket for their pro-touring pan (and others I assume), but no pictures to look at to see if they took care of the notch or just expect you to fill it with RTV.
