I'm rebuilding my 1970 Swinger 340. I'm looking to install a factory tach in my rallye dash as my car didn't come with one, without breaking the bank. I'm also looking to repair/replace my dash pad. Any help is greatly appreciated. Trying not to run afoul of the moderators. I know they're doing their job.

70dart340 - about the tach, if you are not that particular about originality - take a look at what Jeff Ramen did with his 1968 Barracuda, this is probably what I was going to do (Jeff's 1968 Barracuda, Aftermarket Tach). Jeff has since sold his car - hope he keeps his site up because its a great resource to me. :) he used an AutoMeter 2891, I think today the tach is around 140-150 USD. I've also seen a guy on YouTube use an Autometer 1490 tach, at around 130-140 USD today) and take it out of the housing. )

Hope that helps...

If you are using Electronic ignition, the Tachs for 67-69 Mopar's with Rallye dash will not work properly as they are designed for points and not the newer electronic ignition. You can buy the proper circuit board at Mr Heater Box that will solve the problem and its not expensive.

I ended up doing this and it worked out great. 85.00 US.

My car still has its original tach in the dash and I run a Mallory Unilite electronic ignition and tach has been working for over a decade now. Before that I ran mopar electronic ignition with original tach for couple of decades. So that is several decades with original tach and "modern" electronic ignition and it is still working.....

I wasn't so lucky ! When I compared the rpms on my tach to the tach on my digital timing light, it was way off! I contacted the guy who rebuilt my cluster and this was the fix he recommended, worked perfect!

Original tach has an adjustment to calibrate the RPM. I don't think my tach is accurate don't think it ever was even when I used to run points.....

Ya, I don't think that was a priority on the assembly line 50 plus years ago. Mime's pretty good now though. I guess its probably the better electronics that makes the difference.
