Scream'n 318 ?

-
You're making me want to hop up the 318 Poly in my 64 D200 flatbed with 4sp and 5.13 Dana suregrip.
I did pop a wheelie onetime with a little dirt in the back.
The truck is a mean stop lighter when not carrying a load. lol

I've had interest in doing a poly. Get the dual quad intake. My sister had a '62 Dart with the poly, and it beat my brothers 500 C.I. Cadillac to 80 mph before the Caddy went around it.... LOL

I have this prepped 413 block I've been staring at for the last 15 years. Hum, I wonder.

some numbers posted by Hot Rod a while back. These may be interesting to somebody.... :)
  • Stock 360 2bbl intake - average 238 cfm's
  • Edelbrock RPM intake - average 255 cfm's
But you can't take "CFM's" to the bank and expect to CA$H in.... Runner shape and design will be mighty important to how the engine performs. But for the sake of CFM's, you can see that with some thought and porting, the 360 2bbl could be a viable intake for a 318. I can tell you, we set up a 318 with a 360 2bbl intake and carb, dual exhaust and all else stock. Pretty amazing. I'll just say it was the "fastest" 318 2bbl I've ever driven :)

My cousin stock car was allowed either the stock 2 bbl intake or the regular performer and they found the stock one was faster.

Back to your truck.... Did you install the 5.13's?? Or is it a dually??

previous owner did and it's not a dually.
in it's previous life it climbed and came down Idaho mountains hauling wood. It's a great truck for crawling.

I had a 340 with a mopar 292 510 cam in it with hydraulic lifters that would rev to 7500! Did not make power there and the lifters were out of a 383 stock class car that ran in the 10s and yes they were highly modified.Yes this is for the guys that say a hydraulic set up will not rev.

I too, had a 340 7k+ with hydraulic MP lifter and under .500 lift cam. Can't say "it can't be done" to somebody that's done it :)

This is on page 12 and we are still beating on Hyd Cam'ed 318's. ;)

My son's teen is KB Hypereutic Pistons at 10.2:1 with lighter weight wrist pins. Eagle rods and 4 pounds cut out of the forged 273 crank. Ported Magnumn heads with dual intake bolt holes drilled, and a 270'isn Voodoo Hyd cam, AMC type lifters to oil the rockers. Non-Mag Eldy RPM intake with a Eldy 650 carb.
It pulls fine to 7500 RPM and with 3.91 SG it makes the front steering very light on launch.
Have not tracked it yet but it will walk away from my highly modified Stupidroo Outback XT with Sti turbo and lots of Perrin parts.

what is your son's 318 in? Plans to make a pass at the track? Sounds like a really solid build! Thanks for sharing

1968 Dart 270. Fiberglass front fenders and glass Hemi hood. Frame connectors, rear springs moved inside frame rails, tub'ed for 325/40 22's, 8 3/4 clutch SG 3.91 in a narrowed Dodge Van housing. Rear fenderwells stretched forward 2 inches. Caltrac's. 727 lockup with a 3200 stall.

Like I said, when launched with 'Line-Lock' on the converter, the steering gets very very light.

Built as cheap as we could. All things like the frame connectors, torque plates and spring mounts were home made and plasma cut.

You can make 400+ HP with a teen. Even with iron heads and Hyd cam.

Sounds like a screamer to me.

  • 1st decision will be the short block choice. LA roller or Magnum. I have both. Leaning towards the magnum.
  • 2nd decision will be choice of heads. LA 360 or Magnum. I have both. I would rather work with the LA 360 heads and rocker shafts

Wouldn't your head choice decide which block to use?

why would it? I can run Mag heads on a LA, and LA on a mag block. If using the mag heads, then the 5.2 mag makes sense. But I think I want to use the LA 360 heads

.
How are you going to oil the LA heads on the magnum block?
Asking for a friend.
