Hi guys,

Can somebody help to explain how replace a pcv valve ko? It seems broken and half the valve is inside. I was thinking to also replace the grommet but obviously the one i have as spare dont fit.
(Dodge dart 318 1972)

It should just pull out.

The rubber gets hard and brittle, so the remnants of the pcv valve might not come out easily.

You might want to pull the valve cover so you don't drop chunks of plastic into the engine.

You could also try to pry out the rubber grommet or cut it out if you have a replacement.

If it broke off while you were trying to remove the pcv valve I would remove the valve cover. If it broke cause you bumped it, first try to pull it out.

Many thanks!
I wanted to avoid to remove the valve cover but i’ll have to, pieces of the valve brokes when i try to pull it out...
Hoping that the existing grommet will be reusable.

If you have a hair dryer (carefull of the paint) but a little heat might soften the rubber enough to get the rest out.

Apply some penetrating oil like WD-40 and use a twisting motion while pulling up. Twist back and forth as much as necessary.
Slip joint pliers set properly will help prevent crushing that remaining part. If worried, place a wooden dowel rod inside that part to further help prevent crushing it.
If you get it out without damaging the grommet, the grommet can be reused.

You're probably done by now. Remove the cover, cut the top off of the rest of the valve and push it through.

Looks like your old one has a metal base that goes into the grommet. If so, just grab it with some pliers or vice grips and twist/pull it out. Nothing would have fallen into the valve cover to worry about. If it's a plastic base, pull the valve cover if pieces of the old valve are missing and presumed inside.

If you put the broken pcv valve back together are all the parts there

I think so. I got back all the missing little plastic pieces on the picture that broke when i tried to pull the valve out.

Post a photo of the bottom of the part that was stuck in the gasket.

My guess is that all of the parts displayed came out when it broke, and only the plastic stuck part was left, correct?

Correct. Here the photos (bottom piece + spring)
I compared with the new valve and i don’t see how it’s possible that something fell inside.
Btw, i bought the car few weeks ago and it looks like the valve was broken since a while. The previous owner tried to seal both pieces with something with no success...
