Adjustable Vacuum Advance
This is a great thread, and I'm just now finding it as I spend almost all of my forum time on FBBO because I have a 70 Roadrunner.
I have always considered all ignition events to be critical for maximum performance!
I dreamed of an ignition system that would have similar detailed control ability and functionality like EFI has, and a company actually built it! Description of this MIRACLE ignition system follows what I have now:
For now, I have been using and have been pleased with my FBO Ignition from Don at 4 seconds flat. It's basically a Chrysler distributor with what is supposed to be an adjustable vacuum advance can (I've never been able to get the Allen wrench to "bite" on the adjuster thru the vac can nipple). Don set the vac advance based on my engine build.
He also incorporates his "total mechanical timing limiter wheel" which is a disc with square holes punched in it, and it is set to limit max mechanical advance, but allows more initial advance and the weights and springs change the rate of the curve...
So there's a company Progression Ignition, and their distributor advance is fully electronically controlled! There's a vacuum nipple that reads MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) in Kpa (Kilo-Pascals) and affects relative advance changes. The distributor is programmed with a smartphone or tablet, and once you enter basic data, it generates an advance chart, then you can modify that.
My chart looks like this, unmodified from the one that the app generated:
Kpa MAP is displayed on the left hand column, RPM across the bottom, and degrees of advance on the chart.
I don't have the system yet, but I was able to "work offline" with the app. The info on Kpa is to the best of my knowledge.

This could help me raise my idle when I run the added on A/C on my 440 6bbl and get rid of the too fast idle I have when I'm not running the A/C.
