What is the best way to remove the plastic wire looms from commando valve covers without breaking them.

Those are 67's. I would heat them up a bit with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften them up a bit.

It’s funny that you posted this as I was looking for the 65-66 style for my valve covers. It looks like Layson’s has them and the correct oil fill cap. I live close so I can just pick them up.

This post show both styles of Commando valve covers.
These being the earlier one with the stove pipes for both the breather and the PCV, also notice the fin pieces do not have the hole for the plug wire clip.

The later style have a domed section at the PCV and breather and these have a hole for the plug wire clip.

Hey those are mine! Well, my restoration work anyway.

There are two styles, the full-bodied ones like in my photo and the o-ring type used on @65dartcharger's in his After Photo he shared with me.

The fins will tell you which ones you need. If there is a slot on the larger center upright, the full-bodied plastic ones lock into the slot.

They're really easy to install but do tend to break when you try to take them off, especially brittle 50+ year old originals.

As far as I know both styles are available. Last I remember the plastic ones were about ten bucks apiece though. Check with Mr. G's and RT Specialties.

yes you are correct CudaChick. photo credit to you and your work. it was easier for me to use your photo since I wasn't in the shop at the time of my post. fantastic work by the way.

If you're interested in the differences. Charger/Commando valve covers.
always good to connect with Iowa folks. I am originally from Davenport. My Formula S was originally purchased in Rock Island IL. but spent most of its life in Davenport where I had bought it in 1985. I lived in Independence and Cedar Rapids for a bit as well. 1989 I brought the car to NC with me. Go Hawks.

Small World! I was born and raised in Moline. :D

So you cruised 23rd ave and probably the ones in Davenport then.

No, I was only 14 when my parents decided Colorado was the place to be. Sometimes my brother took me in his split bumper Camaro though (before a Davenport city bus crushed it ... which disappointingly turned into a new Horizon TC3 and was too embarrassing to be seen in.) I still miss Country Style malts. Do we look familiar?? LOL My dad Bob Johnson had an International dump truck, painted houses, worked for the Moline Fire Department, and built/ran stock cars while we lived there. Instead of car stuff, my brother sold jeans at South Park Mall and I ended up the gearhead. Feels like a hundred years ago now.
