Debating on A Body or B Body for first car

-
Heck im 36 and still have a hard time lol
Back before the turn of the century when I was 13 I thought of two things, girls and cars. Maybe 2 hours for cars and 22 hours for girls. After 16, cars got way more time. Anyway find what you can for the best PRICE. The least you pay for the car the more you can spend on it.! STAY AWAY FROM A RUST BUCKET. Nite mare

Hi, Everyone

For the past few months ive been looking at cars daily, wishing i had an old mopar just like my dad. But im really having trouble deciding on what car i think i should get, I was looking at dusters for a very long time and then i looked at a 73-74 Roadrunner or Satellite. Im only 13 and i know i have a good amount of time until i do get a car but i really am having trouble trying to decide what i want. And theres other cars i like too that i might want so these arent my only choices.

Thanks,

Joe

How tall are you now and how tall do you think you're gonna get? That would have a bearing on my decision. I'm pretty tall (tween 6-2 and 6-3) and although I fit in my 64 Valiant, I did move the seat back 1.5". Big people kinda "wear" an A body. Just something to think on.

As for the Ford or Chevy question, I never considered either. My best friend has a 70 Camaro, he's on his 4th engine and 3rd trans and rear. My brother had a 65 Mustang, which was nice and much more reliable, but I always liked the Barracuda best. Depending on what you want, you don't need to have the "best" stuff for your MOPAR. They can all be made good with not much money or effort. They are the most bullet proof cars out there.

Yea im a big guy too and my legs kinda squeeze under the steering wheel getting in and out. But the bench seat is nice and comfortable when I get situated lol.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all of the advice. I go every year to the Chrysler Nationals in PA, there is always cool cars there for sale so that was one of the places i was thinking of looking at for a car. I also go on classiccars.com and i find some nice mopars in my price range that are in pretty good shape and most of the time have a mild or stock engine. So i can get used to that and drive that for a while and then build a high performance motor with my dad. I honestly dont want a super nice car and what i mean by that is i dont want something that has immaculate paint and is all restored. Because i know its a little scary to drive something that nice around with everyone on the road. But i want something im really going to enjoy so nothing too bad quality wise either. I have thought about getting a regular car or truck and then just slowly building my mopar as i save more money, thats actually exactly what my dad did when he built his 73 challenger. The reason i was thinking about getting a B-Body was because i want to build a 440-6 Pack. And ive heard many times its pretty hard to fit something like a 440 into an A-Body due to the smaller engine compartment and the block being so wide. I really do like A-Bodies and i love E and B-Bodies too, but its a little discouraging when i cant find any thing for sale i really like for now. But i know and i expect there obviously to be something for sale in the future. My uncle actually has an orange 74 cuda that i wish i could buy from him but im not sure if he would sell it (he might want to one day!). I already have 2500 saved and im going to try to get some kind of work to do during the summer to save more!

Thanks,

Joe

Welcome young man. I have a 16 year old son, he just started driving last year and has been interested in Mopars his whole life. So, my advise to you is the same for him....

Buy a good reliable car to get you back and forth to school. I bought him a 2010 Ford Escape for $750 from my friend. Why this advise? Because you need to hone your driving skills, you need to learn how to fix and maintain a daily driver, and you plain just need to get there most times. Then you can start looking around for something you really want. My son wants a truck, and we’re looking at a ‘79 Little Red Rxpress that’s owned by a nice lady, it was her fathers truck, so she has sentimental attachment to it, which is good because I want my son to honor that. If we get it, I know he will take care of it, and he will still have his daily to drive while he goes through the truck, making it his.

Bottom line, be patient, the right vehicle will come to you when it’s time, don’t buy some hunk of junk with stars in your eyes just because you have to have it now. This is a hobby first, and you should be in it for the long run. Good luck young man, I wish you well!

As with all the good info from the other guys. Think about what you want to do with your classic. You want a cruzer, a stop light burner, a canyon carver or a mix of all. First it is best to have some cheap, good gas mileage runaround car/ mini truck that won’t give you a headach or kill your pocket book that ya don’t care about. Daily driving a classic can be done, but takes a while to build and trust that you wont get stranded somewhere cus ya had an issue. An A body with a small block is an all around good choice for many forms of driving be it drag racing, road racing or just getting the groceries as attested by a great amount of the good folk on this forum. Like you said and is a good choice, I don’t have matching numbers cars, I have cars I can get into, smash the gas and put a huge grin on my face as I just blasted a 5.0 mustang, or whatever car off the stop light cus it’s fun:rofl:. But do I want to driving my car daily in the sea of A**holes running around like drugged up lost cockroaches? Hell no, as their too busy playing on the phone not respecting my car or time into my car... so build what you like and want knowing your making an investment into a set of wheels you may or may not see a return on. just know there’s going to be days that your so frustrated, that you throw every word in the book at it, but the next your a pig in ****... happy hot rodding
