Two part question;
Anyone have an idea how much would need to be milled off my heads to take a 78cc chamber down to 74 cc.
Would you do it for an extra 0.60 of compression???
I'm waiting to find out how much it will cost. That will be a factor, since my intake will also need to be milled as well.
Thanks.

Hey ready to pay through the nose. I was quoted 125 a head in town today to take over .020 off.

I need to find a decent mill and start making money.

Lol, so far that will be the cheapest thing I'll spend. Yeah getting a mill, that would be a great idea.

I picked up a nice bridgeport last year,
looking for a head jig reasonable, there pricey!

To me, it kinda depends where you would be at, compression wise, without milling. 7.8 to 1, sure, .mill the crap out of em, 10 to 1, uh, no. 11 1/2, gonna run on E85, okay.

470 stroker, It's 11.4:1 to 12.02:1 this will be a dedicated drag car & using the correct fuel.
Which isn't determined yet 110-116 octane

Dedicated drag motor with enough octane? Sure, mill em if the price is reasonable. Do the intake face of tbe head, not the intake. Maybe call Trick flow tech line, if they have one.

Alright thanks for the info

I recently did two sets of 270’s.
Cutting the decks .044 took out 8cc’s.
It’s about .0055” per cc.

Be aware that not all head resurfacers are capable of producing a Cometic friendly finish.
Sometimes the cheapest option really isnt the the best choice.

Yep. It’s getting to the point that you need a profilometer just to surface this stuff. I do know some guys are having trouble getting the surface finish correct for FelPro gaskets. I looked at some readings when I was over in Vancouver the last time, and they had a hard time getting the surface finish that FelPro called out.

Thank you for the info. -8cc's would put me at 12.5:1, that's better

I dumbassed a few years ago when I was getting back into cars, put some nice thin cometic .028 on my 5.9 magnum while installing the new heads.
OOOOOPS !
they never sealed

@PRH Old thread, but I made it lol.
Do you recall how much you took off the intake face to get the manifold alignment correct?

We only have a 40 grit aluminum carbide surfacer and we do a **** load of heads with it aluminum and cast iron, funny thing is we have never had a comeback with any head gasket and yes we've built engines with MLS and specifically cometic.
The only comeback was from a new mechanic who just graduated tech school and he didn't even install them he just said " it won't work" but it has on every other LS, hemi, Honda, Subaru, Toyota, jaguar, fomoco, even nicosel aluminum.

I believe it. Cut depth and feed rate have enormous impact on the final finish and anyone who says they can eyeball a good surface is smoking something.
Profilometers don't lie, and I've seen them read some terrible finishes off great machines used by morons and great finishes off terrible machines used by true craftsmen.

For .6 of a compression point? You've lost what little mind you had.

Well before was .6, now I'm shooting for a full point, I can do it myself, costs me nothing but a couple hours of my life. I'm doing this now for a future larger solid roller cam and to optimize what I have already

And Mo Powa!!!! We need every single thing we can get.

Is he making over 750 hp ?

ultimate goal, over 750hp?

Not 750 yet, there were some issues with my engine that was making it numb and unhappy, so it's torn down and getting better. ultimate goal yeah over 750 but not with this engine. I have a rowdy street engine I have a lot of parts for so these heads will go to that.
Ultimate goal is B1 headed indymax aluminum block 550-575 ci .
I'm aware I have enough compression to make good power but it's for optimum power!
