I have been a faithful customer of Summit Racing for well over 43 years. I probably buy over 80% of my racing needs from them but lately WOW are they out of their gourd. I tried to order an ATI powerglide case for my son from Summit and their price was 814.88. jegs price was 669.00 minus 20.00 from the sale they have going on. Its on backorder so I called ATI directly and he couldn't even guess on a manufacture date so I will keep the order open. I have 3 of the ATI cases so all he really needs is a powerglide to small block mopar bellhousing. I asked if they were available and he had 5 in stock. I asked pricing and he quoted me 349.00 for the bellhousing. He said if Summit or Jegs offered free shipping I might get a better deal from them. He gave me a part number and said to just call back if he could help. Well Summit had it listed for, get this 443.99 or 419.00 through the ProShop. Jegs was 349.00 minus 10.00 sale going on plus FREE drop shipping. I usually don't play the price matching game so Jegs is looking like my new "go to" place for shopping. i guess I should join their ProShop.

Honestly I haven't. I just recently ordered some parts from them and they were cheaper than anybody else. Seems like an odd issue for sure. They would price match though.

Like I said I usually don't play that game. If its a few dollars and the service has been great I don't mind but these weren't even close.

It seems like it's hit or miss. I always compare prices between Jegs, Summit and who else may carry the brand that I'm purchasing. Sometimes Jegs will be way more than Summit, other times its the opposite. Most times they are close in price if not the same price, but for some reason certain items seem way outta whack, best to always price check. I did notice the C4 I bought for my wife's car a few years ago went from $1800 to $3100...price of items are def on the rise.

ATI wouldn’t even give me a guestamate when they would have their powerglide cases. He said foundry work and components were a big issue. Cam cores are running low too.

The pandemic killed shipping from certain countries jacking the prices for many products. There is also a shortage of shipping containers which slows shipping. Shortage of New Shipping Containers Adds to Global Trade Turmoil
We have a traffic jam of cargo ships sitting at anchor off of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The Port Authorities are backlogged on their inspections due to the increase in import traffic. The dramatic increase in online purchasing during the Covid shutdown has resulted in a higher demand for quicker shipping times.

I’m a summit faithful also. They have treated me excellent over the years. Customer service second to none. I have noticed the price jump on many parts. They don’t stock parts much any more. Maybe they can’t get them or they don’t have the bank roll to restock.

The mail order stores have been backing off on discounts & promotions for a while now. Raising prices and "shipped from vendor" are just another natural progression in efforts to save money during the current economic situation. ALL businesses don't want to be stuck with any inventory that may not move.

They have the perfect storm set up right now and it’s working great for them. Honestly the vendors at least most of them don’t want to deal with us. Summit, Jegs advertises the parts, orders them from a vendor and get business shipping costs and just have it drop shipped. They make money and don’t have to tie up one red cent. Smart business plan.

I bet it's China. A lot of parts are cast in China and machined here.

Yes I just bought a set of air bags for my new truck when it gets here and Summit was about $20 more expensive than Amazon. Have had problems with Jegs lately also I purchased a pre made -8 hose with fittings and it leaked. I tried to make a return on something else and was on the phone over an hour. I have bought a lot from them both over the years. I recently was looking to purchase a new stock distributor and Mancini was actually cheaper which doesn't happen often I usually try to avoid Mancini due to their high shipping and handling prices and many years ago they gave me a hard time on a purchase that left me hesitant to deal with them. I was just at my engine builders shop this afternoon to check progress on my spare 363 , he told me he is backed up to the point he isn't taking in any new work partly because he is having as hard time getting parts for anything regardless of brand.

I have been dealing with Summit for almost everything, and their prices are normally competitive. But I am discouraged with their customer service lately, especially with back orders. They charge your card and then forget about you. Got to constantly e-mail them and wait for a response. I ordered Quick Fuel float bowls in October, and they just now cancelled my order. Said Quick Fuel was not going to produce the float bowls. I e-mailed too bad there isn't something else compatible. That is just one example of a number of problems. I am also waiting for a ATI case, might have to put the 904 in to get racing.

Prices are and have been going up everywhere along with shortages.

I just ordered a specialty fitting from Jeg's, advertised at 9.39, with shipping 20.98. WTF, when you were robbed by Jesse James or Pancho Villa, at least you knew you were being robbed.

if you are an Amazon prime member check that same fitting on Amazon. Free shipping, same product, probably same vendor, two days to your door.

Lately I've been searching by manufacturer P/N. Whoever has the lowest price gets my business. My county charges 8% sales tax so I used to mail order a LOT. But...they've caught up to that. Even eBay charges sales tax now.

Anyone remember when Summit was just a bunch of stores on street corners scattered throughout Akron? They consolidated and are the supermarket for hot rodders now. I used to drive down to Jegs in Columbus just to walk through their stores once a year or so.

I ordered something from Summit, and it was back-ordered. Went from waiting a month, to two months, then three. Finally they just cancelled the order. I reordered it and it took 3 more months to arrive. The Pandemic has taken a toll all around.

I have not noticed, as I only buy from Summit when I have to. I normally go on the Summit site, find the part I need and then find it on eBay much cheaper and with free shipping.

Man we used to make out like a bandit at summit. 10% off coupons 5-6 times a year, free Summit bucks, pro shop, no sales tax, and free shipping. The first to go was being about to use both pro shop discount and 10% off. Ohhhh for the good old days.

Yeah and with Direct Connection/Mopar Performance, too. Do you remember their "good guy" pricing?

paid $ 3.75 a piece for the heavy duty rocker arms from Direct Connection in 1979. lol
90 bucks for the electronic conversion kit.
