A833 overdrive V8 bellhousing?

-
So, do I just look up the casting number on bellhousing to see what size?

Thanks Dan. Looks like I have casting 2892262. So 11" flywheel 143t. That would be FW211N-440 from you then.
Correct. Are you using this in an A-body I assume? You would need to use either a hyd clutch bearing or slave with this bell. Can't be used with mechanical linkage in an A-body.

Actually it is a custom build 68 Charger I am putting together slowly. Just spend more time on A bodies vs B bodies

What would be the easiest / best way to mount an early A 833 V8 bellhousing to a later A 833OD? Is there an off-the-shelf front bearing retainer that could work? Or cut down the 833OD current bearing retainer to fit the BH smaller opening? Or open up the early 833 BH?

Opening up the bell housing can get into the fork pivot mounting holes.

Turning down the bearing retainer can get into the mounting bolt holes for that.

Depends on exactly what you have and the measurements and bolt locations of the above.

I've heard of swapping the retainer, bit IIRC that only works with certain bolt patterns.

I know it can be done, as I have an iron BB bell mated to an OD.

No idea what parts they are or what got machined if anything, as I'm not about to take it apart unless I need to.

Depends on what size front bearing in the overdrive. A/F O/D's could have had 307 or 308. 307 bearing we simply change retainer. 308 bearing, and we need to machine the retainer to 4.805" and the bell to 4.807" to fit the 2 together. 308 bearing will be C13157 casting number on the retainer, 307 would be C97728.

I was going to say call Brewers, but it appears he beat me to it. :)

This are the bearing retainer part numbers for the 3 gear boxes I have in my garage, for a 273 V8:
(1) Aluminum case 833OD from a truck = C13157.
(2) Iron case 833OD from an A-body = C13157.
(3) Iron case 833 from an early A-body, with b&t flange = C94796. The bearing retainer hole in the OEM BH for this early A-body 833 measured 4 1/4" = 110 mm.
I also have an aftermarket BH, and the bearing retainer hole measured 4 13/16" = 123 mm.

You can change the front bearing retainer for the smaller size. I have an od trans and big block bellhousing. I got the new bearing retainer online with the 4.8 register for the bellhousing

Was that a stock early input bearing retainer? I have been looking for a casting number 4202507 or 3743859 bell housing with no luck of finding one. I do have a cast iron case OD transmission(1 year only). Hmmm... If anyone has one of the Overdrive bellhousings that I just mentioned for sale, please let me know. Otherwise I may have to try what 71GSSDemon did...

Or maybe he just went to bed. I mean it's a long way between California and Michigan; how many time-zones is that, gotta be at least three.....
It's two hours to Kansas. I have a home there, but work out in California. It's too bad that I worked today and probably missed the opportunity... sigh

Well this didn't go good. I want to do the right thing here. I was originally reaching out to @Classiccarjack . But @LO23M8B responded and started a conversation. I can't make everyone happy here. Not sure where to go here.

I wish that I wasn't working yesterday, I would have been able to respond sooner. I have been looking for one of these for quite some time. You originally reached out to me, and I did respond the same day... As the saying goes, the ball is in your court. I would love to end my search. I need it for my sons car, it's for a father/son project.

Sorry man this was a old thread that's why I reached out. Maybe you could start a wanted thread. I am very sorry but I missed a whole lot of stuff even when I was first. I do really need this and soon. And yes I went to bed.

Exactly.
Parts bought and sold need to be in the classified forums and not in a old transmission thread.

Start a parts wanted thread if you are looking

Hope you understand now.

I never received a PM. This all started because I did a search for the 4202507 bellhousing number and it brought up classiccarjack in this post. I'm sorry but thats who I was reaching out to. I do look in the parts wanted when I get ready to post something for sale.

Please call me with your final decision. Thanks.

Wouldn’t happen to remember where you found that retainer would you?
