Looking to add a Hellwig front sway bar on my 69 Dart, street driven. It has the later K-frame w/spool mounts and NO tabs on the LCA's. They advertize 5906 for stock frame and 55905 for the later frame. Will the 5906 fit or will I need the 55905?

Also, is there a need to add a rear bar as well?

Thanks in advance.

Use the 73 up sway bar. Do you have the 73 lower arms with the sway bar tabs? Check out the instructions. Do the front bar first, A bodies usually don't need the rear bar.

Use the later bar as there are fewer interference problems, but on the later k-member you can use either the early or late bar.

On the later K frame, the sway passes through the web of the K frame and he flat plates bolted underneath that the sway bar bushing seats bolt to. And, the sway bar tabs are welded to the top of the LCA, unlike the earlier style. Not sure how the early style bar would fit, except to mount it like the early style K frame, with the bushing saddles bolted to the front and the LCA tabs welded on the bottom.

#55905 is the bar that you want, you want the sway bar to match the K frame. Especially if you don’t have tabs on the LCA’s.

Hellwig includes a set of tabs with that bar for installation. They can be bolted on, but welding them to the LCA in the proper location would be better.

Thanks Jim. I think you mean on the "earlier" K, you can use either.

Nope, the early ones (except for a very few - I've only seen one) do not have the holes for the late bar. The early bar can be mounted to the late k-member without difficulty, but you may have to drill four holes.

I finally ordered the Hellwig sway bar 55905. As mentioned, I have a 69 Dart w/the later k-frame, spool mounts, no sway bar tabs. I started mocking up the install and found that the LCA surfaces where the L brackets mount are not flush like in their instructions. The raised area is right where the hole needs to be drilled and the L brackets do not sit flush.

Anyone run into this and if so, what was the resolution?

If that is the correct location for the tab (most of those that I have seen mount with the shock bolt), I'd just weld it on.

the top bracket can go all the way to the LCA ledge.

Some people have drilled through the both sides of LCA and cut fit a tubular spacer to put inside the LCA so you can tighten the bolt without collapsing the LCA.

Thanks for the replies. According to the instructions, this is the location to mount the tab. I found some pix on line w/the same LCA as mine but the tabs are in the upper left/right of the LCA, pretty much at the location of the shock lower hardware. My bar is 37" hole c/l to hole c/l and if I use the shock hardware, the end links will be on an angle plus interfere w/the strut rods. The end link bolts are 7.25" long. Wonder if they sent the wrong length bar.
Gonna get in touch w/Hellwig tech support today.

If you look at my last pic of the hellwig sway bar that welded mount is about the same location as where they tell you to drill hole.

It’s the same sway bar just factory LCA mounts.

Looks like I have the later k-frame and 67 - 72 LCA's. Guess welding them on is the way to go.
Bolt the mounts on and then weld them.
I have an extra set of the Hellwig brackets if you need them.
