U.S. version '64 Darts didn't have a 10" brake option, so, I'm wondering what your brakes came from. If they're the '65-up small bolt pattern brakes, they should have 2 1/4" wide shoes. I'm not sure what you can get away with, but, there are several methods to keep it stock looking and to also improve your braking. If you must keep it drum brake, how about using 11" front brakes off a B or E body? That would also give you the benefit of the big bolt pattern and more wheel selection. If you don't mind replacing the rear shoes more often, you could cut off some of the friction material from the brake shoes. Slightly hammer the rear steel brake line to restrict (but not close off) some of the flow, or add some sort of orifice inline to do the same. Just some ideas.....
