I sell my two Volare's, have some extra parts to sell off. Find buyer for7 WOM in Ca. I box it with two pieces if cardboard, just the size of the stuff. Take it to PO for a shipping quote. She weighs, she measures, and yep $28. Cool. So the guy sends me the $ paypal. I also get hit for the 3% PP fee, thats fine. Take it back to PO and the SAME WOMAN that did my quote says. " I am so sorry, but it is too big to go USPS." WTF is she the damned stupid? Guess so.
So I make 50 mi trip to UPS in another town, and get this, $155.35 to go to Ca. He say yep, expensive to go there, and the box is sorta big. Not near as big and heavy as an AMD windshield that goes from Atlanta to Tx for $200, but....
So I send it on, NOT the buyers fault. I did not lose any $, just that my $150 worth of WOM suddenly became $25 .... less cost of 50 mi trip! ha
I love my USPS. I must have pissed off that worker before!?????????????????????/// She had to have done that on purpose.
Rant over. Sorry.

Been there ,done that , got the T-shirt...
They do a half way qoute...then the next day they measure package and price changes significantly......wtf

That is why you start an account online, buy the shipping label, print the shipping label and drop it off. Done deal.

She measured the darn package the day she gave the quote. Weighed and measured it, even wrote it all on the box!!!!! ha!!!!
I sell very little anymore. Too much BS in it. Ain't screwing with it anymore. If it won't sell right here, heck with it. I have a tuff wheel to sell and thats it!

Don’t even bring it to the post office; I just print the label and put the box on the porch with a note in the mailbox that says “package on porch for pickup” works every time!

I've noticed rates have gone way up. I guess it to off set the Amazon and other corporate discounts. The little guy gets to make up for big business discount.

You ask them for a receipt on their estimate. They should be able to do that.

I took some '64 Galaxie parts to UPS that I was shipping to a guy in Holland. $35 quote, I said "wow, that's cheap considering it's going to Europe. You sure?", he says "yep, that's what it says". I message the buyer, he agrees, PayPal's the payment. Next day, drop it off to the same guy... $125 to ship! Like OP said, not the buyers fault so I sent it. After shipping and eBay fee, I netted $6.

I thought this was another "I stuffed an expensive intake manifold in a priority box that didnt fit and it was ruined, but rather than saying "i" am in idiot i blamed the "politics" of the post office. Thanks for not being that. All those on here who are still living in 1980 and love to use the term "shipping kills the deal" will agree. Shipping is expensive.

A.H.

this morning's news said current plans for usps is "to have longer delays with shipping and also closing down more post offices"s, limited delivery weekly. i use the usps shipping calculator a lot. i always add about 1 lb to what my bathroom scale says. it, like said above is pretty close on dollars. i always get a shipping quote from them when i ship because some mom's not only "raised ugly kids, some raised stupid ones too".

I got 2 15x10 steel rims sent from Washington State. UPS was $154.00 for both. Plus brokerage taxes and duty would have been another $120.00 Canadian. So it would have been approx $250.00 usd. So I said can u check USPS. Sure. Next thing they show up here. $158.60 each so $317.20 usd plus $52.00 Canadian for the brokerage. So approx $360.00 usd. Holy crap. I made a trade for these rims and we were each paying shipping for our own stuff. I offered to pay half the shipping to The guy I got them from it he didn’t want it. Just said to put them to good use. Yes there are still great Americans in the USA. Kim

The USA is loosing out big time by having such outrageous shipping prices to Canada. I can send anything to the USA almost the same price as I can across Canada. Also there isn’t any brokerage or duty charges when we send down to the USA. Kim

I love your USPS!!!!!!

How does $115 via UPS to Australia for a crank seal sound?
Same seal cost $28 with USPS airmail, here in two weeks.

GOOD LUCK!!! USPS sucks! Tracking sucks, customer service sucks! Took two weeks to get a package 100 miles away and the box was damaged. I hope it works out for you!
Sorry, just got home from there where they destoyed the box and broke a NOS dual point cap for a 1962 Corvette fulie and had the nerve to say they wont cover it with insurance because it didnt have enough packing. It had plenty of packing, just not enough to withstand being driven over. Yes, its in about 20 pieces!!!

Under the new Post Master's Generals 10 year plan rates are going up even higher to offset the defiset

Print and pay for your labels online and find a local drop off place (mine was an Advanced Auto). Done deal once it's shipped.

FWIW, you can avoid the 3% PayPal fee if you use "friends and family," but then the buyer/seller protection is gone. Just depends on how confident you feel about the sale. (not USPS related, just thought I'd share)

and you dont mind lying to the people who handle your money
but hey, 3% can be a lot more valuable then your integrity

Banks are not your friends, so I won't worry about lost "integrity" trying to pretend to be their friend by giving them money I don't have to.

so integrity only counts with people we consider friends

got it

I know that’s how it came across, but no.

I don’t feel it’s lacking integrity to forego a 3% fee that’s essentially paying for buyer/seller insurance by choosing another option they make plainly available to you.
