Hi guys/gals. I've been curious for something for awhile and would like your opinion. Here's a photo of the top of the dipstick from my 1974 slant six Duster. I believe that this is the factory original dipstick. Have you ever seen one with the red painted tip on the end of the loop. I haven't seen this on any of the other A bodies that I've owned. This is a St. Louis built car. Also, does the open part of the loop face up, or does it face down, when the dipstick is properly installed. Your opinion on both topics would be welcome. Thanks!

If you look closely at that red paint it is really a red plastic plug in the the end of the tubing.

Through 1973 that tubing was flattened at the finger loop. 74 and later finger loops are round and plugged. I think plugs are color coded to application also. They aren't all red

Yeah, you're right. It is a plug. Thanks for pointing that out. Slant Six Dan, are you out there? Any info on color coding of these dipsticks?

If nothing else, the open end of the loop (red plug) goes down towards the frame.

I don't think I am going to discuss my dipstick, or the color of the tip with you guys
