I need a source for the twist-in light bulb sockets that go in the instrument panel on my 1965 Dart Convertible. Yesterday I was trouble-shooting why the oil pressure light didn’t work and discovered the reason - no bulb, no socket! Stole one off my coupe, but I need a source.
Picture attached. Thanks!

The 1/2 ones are very common, but our cars take the 5/8. They are a lot more uncommon. A lot of Auto parts stores have them, but you have to find someone there who can find them.

I need these for my 70 A body rally dash is 5/8s the same for that? If I were to measure where do I measure?

Rally dash is the same. I think it is the diameter of the hole in the circuit board.

While you are at it , get the led replacement bulbs as well. Much brighter and last a hell of a lot longer!

LED's are good but make sure they are dimmable and that they are installed correctly. They are polarity specific.

100% on the polarity. The Phillips versions are available at Nappa and are dimmable. Work great!!

OP I am wondering if you are confused.......what you pictured is the bulb in the socket--two different pieces. The bulbs listings are in the manual "somewhere."

Go to MyMopar and download a 65 Plymouth manual, free. Bulbs listings are in the rear of the manual under "specifications." According to the chart the oil lamp is a 158 which is not a twist in, rather a baseless "push in" known as a "wedge" base

is there any additional info on this, I could never get mine to work .....
They are polarity specific. If they don't light you need to turn them 180° in the socket or turn the socket 180°.

Hope this information helps clear up any questions about the 1965 Dart instrument panel sockets and bulbs. The following info applies to all A body cars Valiant Cuda Dart. All the 63-64 cars use #2257440 sockets and #57 bayonet twist in style bulbs. All 66-76 cars use 2496279 sockets and#158 wedge push in style bulbs. 1965 is a unique year. The Dart uses the older style #2257440 sockets and #57 bulbs while the Valiant and Cuda uses the newer style #2496279 sockets and #158 bulbs.

If you have all led bulbs your dimmer might not work.

Actually Mike69 cuda, I've replaced all the bulbs with leds in the cluster display , the courtesy lights in the rear pillars(fastback), and the map lights and it works perfectly!

The 5/8 holes in the panels never changed so the sockets are interchangeable. Most part stores usually have the later type sockets on the HELP line or rack. I never looked for the early type socket for #57 bulb.

Whew! Lots of good info here! I believe my car uses the #158 bulb in the twist-in socket. I will check out the l.e.d. Replacements. Odd that the cathode end isn’t marked. Thanks for the info and correct part numbers. I was aware it was two pieces, just never occurred to me to remove the bulb for a quick photo.

if you look you can find dimmable dash bulbs that are not polarity sensitive. Call the bulb source to confirm what you are getting before you buy. Non-polarity sensitive bulbs sure are a damned lot easier for dash bulbs.

azaustin: The bulb in your photo is not a #158 bulb.It sure looks like the #57 bulb that fits the old style black plastic socket.Take your bulb to any auto parts store and compare it to the #57 and #158 bulb. The problem is no one manufactures the old style socket anymore for the #57 bulb. Redfish has the best solution. Just use the readily available 2496279 socket and the #158 bulb.

The #57 bulb in the photo is in the socket like park lamp bulbs and other bulbs on your car. Hold socket, push down and turn bulb to release it. The newer #158 bulb is simple wedge base, push/pull straight in/out. Their socket type wont have the square areas where bulb tangs run.

lots of good information here. i was just about to start replacing the bulbs and sockets for my Ins Panel and came across this thread. Looks like Detroit Muscles has them some. My question are all the sockets the same on the board? how many are there?

Depends on you car - my 1970 Darts have a right and left circuit board, and the bulbs/sockets are the same for all the dash lights. BEWARE - there are two different sizes for these twist in bulbs/holders so be sue you get the right ones!

I have a ‘72 demon, one board, guess I’ll have to wait until I have it out before I can confirm size, quantity, and order anything
Unless someone knows
