Soooomeday I’ll need to get my rear end on the BBP train. My pal has a yard full of 63-65 B bodies and parts. Including early 8 3/4 axles with the dreaded gland nut. My question is like so:
Are the shock plates, backing plates, drums, hardware, etc from the early B body housings compatible with a later 8 3/4 housing and the parking brake cables on my 65 Barracuda? If so this might be my way into horse trading other rusty junk and keeping the cost down.

No on the backing plates from the early 64-older 8 3/4''.
Everything else will work (if you remove the drums from the gland nut hubs) you can reuse your park brake cables.

The backing plates from a 62-64 B body are suppose to be usable. According to Doctor Diff.

Well you can as the bolt pattern is the same but the hole for the bearing is much smaller. You can have it machined or open it yourself by cutting/grinding to the proper size. That way the axle and bearing can pass thru the backing plate.

The shock plates will work if the shock mount pin is close enough to a stock A-body location to use stock shocks. Otherwise you may have to figure out which shocks will have the needed expanded and contracted length specs to use with your model car.

Koolsville. Thanks for all the info. I’ll post a thread if I can get the parts.
