Hi,
My buddy is going to let me use his 16ft car trailer, I measured it today and the deck length is 12ft. Would that work for an A body?
Thanks

I just hauled a Duster on my 18' car trailer, it has a 16' flat deck, with a 2' dove, The back tires were at the end of the flat deck, with about 2' extra in the front.
I would say the 12' deck you are looking at is too short.

If it is a quality built trailer, it should be fine. I have a 14ft bed on mine, and towed a one ton dually on it. I did have to remove the outside rear wheels.

Not traveling too far just back from the body shop

I have hauled my Dart on a 16' trailer for over 17 years and my 80 Mirada for 5 years at 70+ mile an hour with absolutely no problems. When on the trailer the front tires were about a foot and a half from the front rail and the same for the back tires to the back rail. When centered like that it kept the tongue weight in check. Bought a new 18' aluminum trailer 3 years ago and basically centered the car the same way, tows perfect. Big difference is with the 18' trailer the rear bumper of the Dart is wright at the back rail of the trailer and with the 16' it hung over the back rail. Oh a 12' deck is a 144 inches that makes it just shy of 3 foot longer than the wheel base.

Those side rails to strengthen a flimsy frame are the hallmark of a badly built trailer (in my opinion).
Just how many million old project cars have creases down the sides from those rails on those trailers! They are too narrow and like you said, not really meant to haul cars!!!! Other than old VWs!!!? ha

its a car trailer doesn't have side rails like a utility trailer, has fold down fenders to allow to open to door.

You can certainly get an A body on a 12' trailer. Hauled my Bird home on this 31 years ago, 300 miles.

Yes it'll work I tow my '70 duster with a 16' Brimar open bed trailer..(for sale by the way)..

18' car trailer, the deck is 16' flat, this should give you an idea of what size trailer you need.

In my opinion, any trailer with less than 14 foot deck length is not a car trailer... and I prefer a 16 foot minimum deck on my car trailer, any less and you have no ability to move the load back and forth to optimize tongue weight. Also having the nose of the car being hauled over the tongue is asking for tow vehicle to hauled vehicle contact. Here is a pic of my Duster on my 16 foot deck car trailer.

To go just a few miles to get a car back from the paint shop? A twelve footer will be fine! As 19dart66 pointed out, three feet longer than your wheelbase.

Here is a picture of my Dart on my 16' trailer, more than enough trailer. To the person that said the car would contact the back of the tow vehicle, I would of had to jack knifed the trailer, bend the frame and tear the hitch off the truck first.

Agreed ! As I showed in my picture, that is my Superbird sitting on a 6' x 12' deck parking lot Tenant sweeper trailer. Actually made strapping the rear axle down really easy.. lol
