Well you have to believe that if it is not “ proper” to start a speech with “ Ladies and Gentlemen “ (cause that offends those that don’t associate with either sex), everything is on the chopping block.
It's not up to me to figure out what they want to call themselves. Dress like a lady, I'ma call you one. Maybe they should wear a sign that says what they think they are.
