Couple 46rh questions
318 in a truck should be a 46RH. But that doesnt mean the trans is the original it came with. I think but am not certain that the 318 could have had either transmission, although the 42RH is geared lower in first than the 46RH to allow V6 trucks and vans to pull loads easier from a standing start.
Does the pan look like an 904 pan or a 727 pan. If it looks like an 904 pan it's a 42RH. If it looks like a 727 pan it's a 46RH. 46RH and 727 have a bump out on the right front of the pan.
OD unit is the same size external dimension for both the 42RH and 46RH. Trans total length is longer for the 46RH. If pan shape is like one below, it's a 42RH.
