One of my friends came to one of the car shows with a black and yellow Mustang with the Hertz Rent a Racer logos.
A Shelby 350 GTS-H. (H for the Hertz rental models)
He told me he just bought it awhile back.
I didn’t think much about it at the time, but just wondered why he bought it since he and his wife both are Mopar people.
THEN I saw a video about those cars.
Ok, now I’m impressed.
The link below explains the Shelby involvement with Hertz car rentals.
The gold strip under the doors says Hertz Rent a Racer on it.

Geez Greg I thought "everybody" knew that. WAY back in the muscle car era it used to be a joke about renting a Hertz and taking it to the track.

who was it that made a name renting mopars, pulling the hemi, installing them in their car and racing it?

They've been around a long time. Some of the 66 GT350H cars came with the Paxton supercharger.

I have heard the rental car and track references for years but didn’t realize they were being specific about the car to rent.
Plus I’m not much of a Mustang fan, so I’m not surprised I didn’t know it.:D

Those first gen Mustangs handle real well, better than most think. On the other hand I felt that my 70 Swinger handled well after I rebuilt the front end...:)

There are lots of stories of the original GT350-H cars (1966???) coming back to Hertz with the broken welds on the floor pan under the rear carpet from putting hoops in them for road racing... cutting them out and returning the car.
