For several years I have mostly bought my oil change supplies from my local Federated parts store. I know the folks well, they give me a good price and I briefly worked for them a couple years ago.

So this week I picked up my usual 5 qts of their house brand oil (Amalie) and a filter ( was always made by Hastings).

Total cost $14.00 and change.

Now I see a new "Made in" note on the box.

Not impressed....

Quality and cheap normally are not in the same sentence.

Pay attention to the World manufacturing Quality reports and you will find that things made in Vietnam rank at the top of the list. I often select Vietnamese products over any others made in Asia, including Japan as a part of my work...and also for personal purchases.

The World evolves and old perspectives don’t remain relevant.

But American jobs do....

Quality does, first and foremost. Price is second. If US Quality is equivalent at a competitive price, then yes...America first.

Sacrificing quality simply for US made does nobody any service...and only diminishes the future of US goods. Paying more for the same quality for US goods just raises the prices of goods here in the US and creates a false perspective that it is somehow better. It also gives other nations an advantage over the US across the globe by offering the same quality for less. Paying more for the same based on the origin is equivalent to paying an additional tax based on location of production.

US goods need the Global market to thrive..and need to be competitive in it.
