So I ran across this car outside San Fransisco last year. Now I got it in my shop. Some smaller rust issues , paint, top, interior, engine/front end and brakes and we're good to go!!
Detroit built car. 273 V8 auto, later added a/c.

So after some work to unhook everything the engine is finally out incl the front end. Way more easy to restore and make it right. Actually I would say it's faster too!

The crate wagon has really paid off well.

6 hour in the shop was well used time. The engine is in the engine stand ready to be tear apart.
The front end is in pieces and will get the acid treatment to be like new.
The convertible top mecanism will be water polished to get back in shape.
But the sad part is that some items is missing!
So if anyone has the following parts I'm interested;
- stainless steel mouldings holding the roof rail weatherstripping
- convertible top looking mecanism on each side
- inner splash shields

This car is assembled in Detroit. The lower control arms has the same markings on the front side. A white longitudal white line on the left side and a horizontel white line on the right side.

Well, that's all for now.

Did the torsion bars last night. Today was the engine day! The engine is so worn out. The bolts holding the water pump are stuck in the transmission cover. The bolts snapped off and I started to use a hammer but after 2 hours to get off the cover I quit. The rest will be tomorrow.

So finally I was able to get rid of the timing chain cover, valve covers and the intake. This engine has not been fired up for a while.
Funny thing I found out. The ground cable from the intake to the body was mountes on the wrong intake bolt. Hmm, someone was in a hurry!!
Will get some parts from the engine builder with his acid bath tomorrow so paint time on Saturday.

that looks like a fun build.I am taking interest in the early as and 273...I saw a 65 barracuda about a year ago, it was priced right but then it was gone on CL. i had started out thinking I want a duster but the early As seem to be available more than a Duster.

Way to go!
Yesterday I picked up lots of like new parts from my engine shop. Getting paint on it was a blast. I like progress!

I got some time off tonight so I thought to take the heads off. Come up with cylinders looking good but needs to be bored.
Some small parts were completed.

Did open up the water channels today. Then a question appeared, did Chrysler fill the cooling system with anti-freeze? I know lots of cars had it but was it an option?
This engine had some muggy mash in it. Lots of rust inside but seems to be fine. Some high preasure hot water will do the job after the pistons and crank has been removed.
I have a 318/340 heat shield for left side. But I need the early style instead. As you can see in picture six the are two separate shields for each valley. You'll see the DPCD logotype as well as the partnumber. In the last picture you can see Mc which I asume is the manufacturer of the gasket; McCord.

Someones willing to trade?

Most engines even up through into the 1990's had some of the casting sand left in the coolant passages. In fact, GM had SERIOUS issues with their 2.5 Iron Duke with practically brand new cars having coolant looking like mud (early '80s as I recall). That might be at least part of what you're seeing.

Removed the oil pressure switch. After some cleaning I found out the manufacturers name, FASCO. Not sure if they did some other parts?

Finally it was time to pick up the body from Dr Rust! What an impressive job he did. All the recessed areas was there incl all wrinkles.
Next is getting the body water polished.
I just enjoy progress!

I have the same car and am looking for left and right rear lower patch panels and left and right interior trunk extention panels. I noticed the black patch panels in your pictures. Did you have that work done and if so where did you get the patch panels. I have rust in need of repair those areas.
Thanks,
Scott

Actually Summit has them. They are from Goodmark. eBay too.

Today I picked up the engine block and the crank. The block looks eccellent.

It's a 1964 block casted in February and assembled in March.

On the upper ends on the block is the stampings showing the size on each cylinder. Looks like size C, D and E is most ommen. These stampings were on late 1964 and 1965 casted blocks stamped on the oil pan rail.

Next thing will be to start assemble it. I like progress.

Well, doing two restorations at the same time is something that's ok. I just wish I had two different cars to work on like @65 Dartman! Way easier. I have posted some pictures on this restoration pn my 65 Dartchager I'm doing.
Anyway the body was glassbeaded today and is in great shape. The paint is ordeted for the instrument panel and will be here shortly. Finally the engine block is done after being punch out 040.
Tomorrow is vacuum cleaning of sand day!
