I received my cold case 26 in rad yesterday, and have began the installation in my 73 valiant.
It looks like I will have to modify it with some holes to mount it to the car as the current holes are not even close to lining up. Has anyone else installed on in a 73+ A-body that can provide pics on bolt modification? Another thing I wanted to see if there is a way to use a stock radiator shroud? If not does anyone have a recommendation on a direct fit shroud?

I have also attached photos showing the space between the Radiator water pump pully. I ordered a Haden low profile clutch to run with my stock a/c car 7 blade fan.

I do believe you are going to have trouble w/ the clearance !!

Maybe can help.
@ColdCaseJoe
If it was me I would gather up a the parts I want to fit together, see where the want to fit and drill the radiator (with CCs blessing so you don't void the warrentee etc) flange rather than the cars flange.

I can't comment on the 26" fitment but its not overly uncommon to have to fit most brands of radiator. The 70-up 22" Cold Case I installed in my 69 fell right in, the Champion I had before that did not.

For the stock shroud I rived on some thick, black, rubber garage door seal that had a lip I biased against the radiator tanks at the top and bottom to seal the gaps. Seems to work well.

The thicker core radiators stick out far more that stock. So you will need to fit your fan accordingly. I think I have the same 2-3/4" space you had and ended up running a 18" flex fan. But I have power steering so there is lees room for me to fit a fan between the core and the PS pulley.

Yea that was one of my concerns about drilling holes. I do not want to void the warranty or the ability to send it back. I was going to go with a flex fan but decided to go with a clutch after reading that the Haden 2947 would work, so I ordered one and was going to check fitment when it arrives today.

The 2947 clutch is 2.7" tall. Looks like you don't have that much space.

Why I have one and a new clutch fan sitting on my shelf now....

And that thing is so short it's damn near impossible to install then add a shroud to the mix.

I`M RUNNING THE 2947 AND HAVE MORE ROOM THAN HIS PIC, "LOOKS LIKE " , I EVEN CHUCKED THE CLUTCH UP IN MY LATHA EXACTED THE FRONT FINS, TTHEY WEREN`T ALL EVEN ,(CAST PART ) , think I took about .060 off to true them up.
A straight driven belt fan is worth about 6-8 over a clutch set up on mine , but the clutch is supposed to be about 20h.p. better .

Yep - it's a bit of a pain to install. I've got one as well. In my car, I have to install the radiator after the fan/clutch. Total pain in the ***. The OP just flat doesn't have the space.

It's a shame there's so much offset built into those mounts on the radiator. Looks like they could get another .5" by just welding the side brackets further up on the core.

Fix ur shroud to make it split in the middle on the sides , bolts / studs are abitch to get in , but I`ve gone both ways on them.

Bummer, looks like I might just stick to my stock rad then. I was really looking for something that didn't require much modifying. Appreciate the help and tips.

Don't you have a B/RB?

I have a cold case 22 inch 70 up radiator in mine and it does take up some extra space. The 2947 is definitely I challenge to install with a 7 blade fan. Might be easier with a 5 blade.

The 26" unit we made was patterned with a B and E body. I don't think we ever got our hands on a 73 Valiant with a 26" radiator support. However, if you have an original 26" shroud, I think it's going to be an easy bolt on. You might just need to drill holes in the rad brackets to mount.

If by any chance you or anyone else has the original radiator, we'd love to be able to borrow it so that we can make a specific 26" A-body unit that is a true bolt on.

Just drill the holes. A stock radiator isn’t close to what you now have. I had to do the same thing. It pissed me off, but to get a real radiator in there that’s what you do.

I have a factory A body 26 inch radiator. The core got shredded but if you want it PM. I’d LOVE to have a bolt in 26 inch radiator.

Gave my stock one a nice paint job, as well as the shroud. There is not enough clearance with the Haden fan clutch so looks like I will stay stock for now.

u could go to a full mech. fan w/o a clutch ---------- might need a spacer , most likely 1/2'' or so.

What kind of real rad. do u have / any pics ?

I can take some pictures when I get back. Getting ready to go out of town. I was using it on my run in stand and it took a fan to the core so it’s had it. But if ColdCase can use it to make an actual drop in fit 26 inch A body radiator I’ll gladly send it to them.

Ccas, will need a shroud also. I want to order a bolt in 26 inch rad for my 74 duster race car. He did supply with a number that was supposed to be bolt in. He didn’t have a factory type shroud for it though. My car is 26 inch factory. Kim

Loose the fan clutch, no issues. Clutch is an efficiency (MPG) thing not a cooling thing

ehhhh.....I don't know who told you that, but they are dead wrong. A fan clutch can be a power advantage over a solid fan by allowing the clutch to coast the fan at road speed if it's a thermostatic fan. The thermostat cools down at highway speed and unlocks the clutch allowing the clutch to spin and not drive the fan, which reduces drag on the engine drastically. This is the whole reason Mopar Performance offered their viscous fan package.

Conversely, as the temperature increases, the thermostat changes position making the clutch lock up more and drive the fan harder. This is why they sound like an airplane on a hot day. So yes, it most certainly is a cooling, MPG AND power thing. The MP viscous fan package is one of the best things you can run if you have the room and if you can find one.

You could take that to a GOOD radiator shop and get them to relocate those brackets until the radiator was touching the radiator support. That would give you what appears to be about one full inch of extra space. Course there's extra cost there, but IMO would be well worth it. You could take the measurement before you removed it and have them move the brackets that amount.
