I have a 1971 Demon, 440 with front engine plate. Currently I have a tunnel ram and 660s poking through the hood. I have always wanted a cross ram. Anybody know if it will fit under a stock hood?

Years back I ran a 68 dart with a 440. At one point I put a MaxWedge Set-up on it. I had to get another hood and open it up the carbs.

This is the style you're referring to? If you need measurements I'll do what I can, but more so interference areas would be the shock mount/ inner fender area and also the master cylinder.

That's the long ram, I think he's talking about the crossram used on the max wedge. I believe.
crossram should fit under the hood.

No, that is the long ram as mentioned. I am interested in the max wedge style cross ram. I know carb to hood clearance would be very tight. Not sure if air cleaners would fit.

But the 1in spacers the front carburetor will completely come out of the hood you would need a scoop. You will need 1in spacers under the carburetors

Screw if it will or if it won't. Just get it and bolt it on in true hot rod fashion without knowing. Findin out ahead of time is cheatin. lol

Was trying to justify the $2k just to have the look I want knowing the current set up works perfectly. I hoped not to buy yet another hood and scoop with those costs.

Chit man......I'd cut whatever I had to. LOL

I get it Rob, I currently have the tunnel ram so that hood is pretty much junk, then a stock nice hood with the twin scoops, so unless I found another cheap hood or opened up the tunnel ram opening even further......hmmm, just could be on to something there.

I'm like the rest of the guys, I think it'll fit.

If Hemi with a crossram will fit so will the max x-ram. Got to have the big port heads too. Won’t fit reg head.

You could look at an Edelbrock STR (13/14 - can never remember which is B /RB). They sit really low and Chrysler did a bunch of R&D on it to be found in a Direct Connection Engine book. They were actually designed to retain the long runners of a tunnel ram while fitting under the hood - STR=Street Tunnel Ram

I like the idea of the twin scoops opened up for the carbs on the crossram, but you would have to figure out if the carbs on either the A&A or Edelbrock crossram sit under the scoops - I think the scoops are too far apart....

A &A casts them also in 440 port so that is what I would go with. The hemi cars had large scoops. The concept is would it fit under a stock flat hood.

With the staggered layout of the carbs, the holes would have had to be cut after and not in stock locations if it would work at all. I would want to use the A&A but just am not sure there is room. Other option would be to cut the already cut hood for the tunnel ram bigger then a scoop, but I was trying to avoid that.

Yes they will. The x ram is 5-1/4 inches off the pad (behind distributor) add for holly carbs. Lay a stick across fenders measure down to pad
