i checked the numbers, my generator is a B&S 7185 start up power and 5750 continuous

i installed a "generator inlet box" a while ago, kinda looks like this

as you can tell, it has two hots, which then get wired into a double breaker on the main panel

i installed a manual lock out like this

the 100 amp breaker is the main, the 30 amp is the feed from the generator
as you can tell, the interlock is a simple mechanical device which makes it impossible for both the main and the generator feed to be on at the same time, making it impossible to backfeed the generator up the line

(and of course, i pulled a permit for this, and had an electrical inspector sign off on the whole thing )

i just got to go through with a paint marker and mark the "essential circuits" so i know which ones i want to power with the generator and which ones i dont need to
looks easy enough is it very expensive to buy?
