Parts Prices, WTF?!

Probably gonna offend some people, but here it is...
YOU ARE NOT GOING TO RETIRE OFF SELLING MOPAR PARTS!!!
Look, I'm a really laid back guy. Like, really calm and accepting of most people. But I gotta say, I just don't get some of the posts that I'm seeing where a member is asking OUTRAGEOUS money for a car part (usually a new member, but I digress).
$400 for a grill, $500 for an air cleaner, $1000 for seats, $1500 for fenders.
There are probably 2 or 3 guys on FABO that have enough parts, that if they sold everything, they'd make $80-$100K. But, guess what, that's still not retirement level cash.
There is ZERO sense in letting these parts waste away in your garage/shop/barn/attic, when they could be used on a running & driving car.
Now, I'm not staying to give your stuff away for nothing. I'm just saying charge a reasonable price, let the buyer get the part on his/her car, and you go grab a nice steak dinner.
Yeah, yeah, I know... "these are original MOPAR parts" & "you can't find this stuff anywhere". But that just proves my point. Ma MOPAR did not produce these parts to sit on a shelf somewhere and not be on the road.
We're supposed to be a community of MOPAR lovers that help each other out, not gouge one and other over a piece of 50 year old tin. And there are some great members who sell stuff cheap. A HUGE shout out to them!
Before you roll your eyes/shake your head, I do practice what I preach. Take a look at my sales ads. I never ask a ridiculous amount for anything. As a matter of fact, I've sent out parts and only asked the buyer to cover the shipping. And when I'm done my build, I'll be hooking up members with whatever I have left over.
Listen, 2020 sucked! Let's make 2021 a great year for FABO members and get them the parts they need to get their rides on the road.

I will say it again, "anything over the price of scrap is salesmanship!"
Anything Mpar usually osts more. Just fact. Always been that way. OK so I see some good pries for 40s, 50s stuff. Guess all us old farts are dying off!??????
Some people love going boneyarding, some love finding parts cleaning them up, and selling for a little profit. Others love selling for a lot of profit.
Some people love hauling parts to swaps the buying/selling, the dickering. Looking for that gem there for cheap, sometimes that gem they find is not heap but they found that illusive part they need! Sell some parts to help pay for your project, whats wrong with that.
Some people are "people people" They love people! They love anything that involves other people. Me? Rather spend my time with my dog, cat, horse, cow, goat.... Only person I love being with 100% is my wife. No disrespect intended to any of my friends!!!
Happy parts!

I said I wasn’t getting in this thread any longer but this hits the nail on the head^^^^^^^^

What is a real PITA ids the stuff they dont make any more the trim , grilles , emblems the things you have to scrounge for used and hope you find a good one. By the time you find say a 68 dart grille that isn't bent broken or cracked you pay what the guy wants just because you've finally found it.:)

Yes parts astronomically high.
I was lucky. I spent sometimes hours shopping for cheaper parts. What really helped was the recession it was not uncommon to find new stuff 40-60 percent off. The other great thing is FABO
And the tremendous body of knowledge here. Stuff I got here all in good shape or new:
Mp distributor set with the curve I wanted $60
4 new drums $40
8 3/4 rear 323 gears $250
MSD 6 al $100
Completely reman 92 360 mag long block $350
340 exhaust manifolds $100
391 chunk sure grip needed clutches $250
Alum radiator $100
Used pwr steering pump and brackets $35
New b & m pro shifter $225
Good 904 tranny with 3500 converter $200
Cheetah reverse valve body $65
Etc etc
Thanks FABO, especially Roy/aka Sg Barracuda

Are these prices you have paid recently? 250 for an 8 3/4 with 3:23 gears..that must have been a long time ago, and probably not an A body axle. But if it was, you got an amazing deal.

I paid $150.00 for an 8.75 housing, small bolt, complete less pumpkin about 20 or so years ago. Those days are long gone. Latest one I bought was $500.00 for a bare housing.

Yup, I paid 400 for a case, then 75.00 bucks for sbp axles, another 500 into a 3:55 suregrip pig that was rebuilt. Then drums/brakes, bearings, etc. The axles were about the only decent deal I got. But after putting in the 340, I needed better than the 71/4 rear. After reading through this thread, that 340 should be worth 5k lol.

I buy & sell on this site most of the time. I've bought & sold on other sites also, but not near as much as here. If I see something for sale & I think the price is too high, I PM the seller & try to negotiate with them, the worst they can tell me is "NO". I will negotiate with buyers also, but if I have money in whatever I'm selling, I'm not going to give it away. I've made offers on parts & been told NO, & then put on the sellers "Ignore list". That's fine with me, it leaves me time to deal with others. I would like to believe that most people on this site are on the up and up, but I've seen complaints about people I've dealt with & had no problems. We are all human & prone to mistakes, but in the end, "YOU CAN"T TAKE IT WITH YOU".

It's always funny to see a thread about this.

I mean, when I'm browsing ads or going through a swap meet if a dude has something for sale that I want that is beyond my opinion of its value I just keep walking. Sometimes I'll make an offer if it's not insanely off what my opinion is but I'm not gonna worry about crap like that. You never know his situation and at the end of the day it's his problem.

When I sell at swap meets I have two piles, stuff that needs to go and stuff that is worth a couple bucks. The sale stuff is usually cheap and the shiny expensive bits draw the attention. I'll put a price tag on the expensive stuff so people don't have to ask me repeatedly, but the cheap stuff doesn't usually need them.

I believe I am the guy with the $400 grill you mentioned. But what you did not mention is the headlight bezels come with the grill, the turn signal lens are new, and I am paying the shipping. Dependent on where the buyer is located that means I could be paying in excess of $200 out of MY pocket to ship the items. Am I going to get rich, no. Am I going to give them away, no again. But if someone makes a serious offer I will certainly entertain it. As you said, the parts are doing no good in my garage and hopefully someone will decide they have a need for them.

Hell it’s your grill, ask what you want. If it’s to much for a buyer, keep looking.

Have any of yall been to a police auction lately? If you have you may find the stuff here is cheap. I went to the Detroit auction Friday and the Vics missing a door, battery and back seat were bringing 2 grand running and 1700 not running. The Chargers were bringing 6 grand and the Exploders were bringing 10 grand. Welcome to the world of stimulus everything is going up. These cars all brought less than a grand a few months ago.

Honestly, I've seen multiple grills for sale in the $400-$500 range, so I'm not certain it was yours that I saw.

As a matter of fact, I don't recall ever seeing a grill offered with headlight bezels, new turn signals and free shipping. That is actually a reasonable price for that deal.

So, I would say your post is not one that I saw.
But, it sounds like you are willing to accept a reasonable price for your items. That's the main message I was trying to get across.

i guess the question is what does it fit?

if its a 69 valiant grille, that is fair price

if its anything else...
