What brand is it and what do you love and hate about it?

I'm in the market for a 53"-72" roll away. Still haven't decided on 25" deep or 30" or which brand to buy. The market is much more competitive than before. Some of the off brands, not Snap On, Mac, Matco or Cornwell have really stepped up their game. I am not trying to impress anyone so the name on the box does not concern me. I will be moving the box frequently but it is on a smooth, finished hangar floor and only over a 50' by 50' area. I'm utilizing a Craftsman box now and just need more space. In the new box I need more thin (height) drawers, than deep (height) drawers. Those deep (again height) drawers are really a waste for me.

I was curious what everyone had in their shops and their thoughts on the subject.

Thank you

My son gave me one of these for Xmas a couple years ago.
I was skeptical at first, but I have to admit, it's been a damn good box and seems just as comparable to the higher priced boxes.
It's plenty sturdy, the casters are decent and it moves easily.
I'd definitely recommend it.

Gotta have roller bearing drawers. Hard to beat snap-on. Lista is nice too

Good thread. So my roll around at work is a HFT Bottom and top. Almost 10 years now and it rolls great and not one problem with the trays or their movement. The drawers opening is the only issue. I could do something about it but I learned how to roll it around a certain way to almost stop it lol......

When you say hanger I assume Aviation. Last year I bought something off FB from a retired Aviation mechanic and he had a Vintage mac box with a bunch of short drawers. Very specific to his work. I suspect that's what you are looking for.... I am curious to see what everyone else post about this.

My only advice is be careful about how much you spend on the box. The expensive right tool is one thing but I am not a fan of expensive boxes. Heavy line mechanics definitely need something to hold hefty tools. The rest of us I am not so sure but to each his own. For Industrial applications I have seen a bunch of Kennedy boxes and Listas cabinets are really nice. YT your interest and look at what mechanics have built. It worth your time to see other ideas....

I myself have a vintage Snap On, best money I spent 20 years ago.
A good friend just got a really nice big roller from Lowes, I like it.

I've been doing a bit of research and watching video reviews. I was surprised to find how many boxes are actually made by the same company but just have a different name on it like Proto and Mac .

I like this box in the EX series which is their higher level:

Extreme Tool Boxes 72

If anyone has actually seen one of these in person or has one I'd love to hear what their thoughts are.

@SLOPAR72 Yes, I'm in aviation, mainly helicopters but we did just get a Cessna T206H. I've looked into the Kennedy boxes but I will check out the Listas.

Thanks

Sounds like you are looking for a cutting tool type of storage. Get two of them and build a top to tie them together. You will have to build a frame with wheels. Just an idea.

I hate to admit it, but Harbor Freight has got some that seem pretty nice. Lots of options to expand with. Im in the market to replace the 2 craftsman ones I have now with a single large one, and maybe I'll take a closer look and maybe save a few bucks.

I’ve got the harbor freight tool cart. Tool boxes upper and lower. These things are great for the price. No issues going on 3 years

Two of the Harbor Freight lowers and one upper. (273 that is now in the car)

I work on Graphic arts equipment A to Z. I have an extremely wide variety of Hex key wrenches and sockets and wish there was a box probably similar to your interest. That Mac was the only one I have seen. It will be interesting to see what you come up with.....

Craftsman roller with an older Craftsman 3 drawer folding top box on top. Fits perfectly and is stable. Kinda pissed the Craftsman nameplate broke one of the pins and now spins but roller drawers and good bottom storage. The bottom cabinet swing up is a little flimsy but its always up so no prob. HF Icon line is way too much for HF to sell in their stores, should not compete with 90% cheaper sockets right next to them. Strange marketing..... The "General" line is good enough.

Two Craftsmen rollers with a 4 and 7 drawer top boxes, 15 years old and drawers still work well. Bought then at a clearance sale for dented stock, both have dented bottoms that don't effect the drawers operation. Also the dents are on opposite sides so when the boxes are side by side you can't see them.:)

I have Snap-On box's. I got them used for a great price and have had them for over 15 years with no problem. I would say new they are not worth the money. I couple of my smaller Craftsman rolling box's are not as good as the snap on box's but at the price difference for new I'd go with the craftsman. Mt unitool side box has had some slide problems but have been able to repair it, but still worth it for the money at 60 percent less than Snap-On.

I about to buy one of the General bottom rollers & one of the top chests to replace the worn out Craftsman boxes I have. I talked with a friend who owned Snap On boxes for years & he raves about his General boxes.

Five or six....somethin like that.

We have a Blue Point that Snap On used to sell (I think they marketed it as they're lower end stuff) and a Mac. Both are great, but I like the Mac better. It's built heavier and has more space. Mac is a three drawer and the Blue Point is a 4 drawer.

I have an old Snap On KRL bottom but i was in the wrenching business. i will say the box has held up well its over 20 years old and it has weight in it. In many ways I am still in the business as I maintain my personal 'fleet" a word to the wise don't sell your tools if you get out of "doing it for a living" you will always be fixing something if you know how and have the tools.
