I just finished putting the brake pedal and parking brake lever assemblies back under the dash in my 66 Dart and can't figure out where this spring goes. Is it even original??? I already have the shorter spring installed for the parking brake lever under the dash.

Any ideas where this spring goes???

That is your clutch fork return spring goes to the clutch fork and then hooks to the bell housing

Thanks guys. That's strange considering the car is an automatic trans car. It's definitely not a throttle return spring. The spring throw is very short - about 1.5", and the spring is relatively stiff. It came from under the dash somewhere. I'm wondering if a previous owner may have just threw the spring on as a non-stock brake pedal return, even though it's not necessary.

it's been so long since I've seen one, but there used to be a spring to stow/hold the jack assembly in the trunk, too.

Those are way shorter than his spring.
Never seen a “stock” spring like that on an auto trans car anywhere.

I've seen that many times too. The brake pedal return spring is weak or missing and someone adds a spring to keep the brake lights from coming on and draining the battery.

Unless 66 and older is different. There is no brake pedal return spring. Many people put a spring on the brake pedal because the brake lights will stay on.

The correct way to fix the brake lights is to adjust the brake light switch brakets.

There's a small spring around the push rod that helps return the pedal. They get weak or get left off when the master gets replaced. Either way it can be just enough for the brake light to stay on.

Thanks guys! I'm convinced it's not necessary for this hot rod. I'll keep it just in case. LOL

Thankfully, I've got an adjustable brake push rod, so I don't think I'll have a problem ditching this spring. Stock A-bodies don't have a brake pedal return spring.
