Slant Six Build Ideas

-
John, 3.23 gears are my favorite for all around driving too. If you maintain the stock tire size, you will be winding that guy up pretty high at 80mph with 3.23's. Slant sixes don't like to be revved up high because of the long stroke. The engine will last longer if you keep the R's on the lower side too.

I like the 3.23 gear too. IMO, the slant six needs some RPM in order to stay in its optimum torque range.A little extra RPM will have a negligible effect on mileage, but will keep it well in it's peak torque band.

Consistent 70-80 ?
Going to have to get a Hyper Pak. :steering:

Which actually ...hold it...Isn't a bad idea.

But is it economical ? There's the question.

I guess that when I said I want to build an economy slant six it was pretty unclear huh?

I am looking to increase the power of the engine to make up for the fact that it will be driving an A/C compressor, and a power steering pump, in addition to the water pump and alternator. I estimate that the car would only have around 90 net hp at the crankshaft with all the stuff on the engine and installed.

Yeah, too bad your original post got trampled on. No real reason for RRR to post his stuff here when the goal was economical upgrades (other than bragging rights) because he already has a separate post.

It is obvious from your original post exactly what your goal is and follows my thinking too.

I have a warmed up 225 in my 64 and very happy with it. But I do NOT have PS or A/C and it IS a manual trans. No losses due to accessories. No overheating issues at all with good stock rad and fan.
Facts are that it runs exactly 3000 rpms at 70 mph with the standard 3.23 gear and stock tire diameter. (Now 195/70R14) Factory speedo gear and speed confirmed by GPS. Speedo is dead nuts accurate. I have no problem keeping up with traffic at all times. It takes 5 hrs for me to drive each way to Carlisle and get 23-24 mpg up and down those turnpike hills.
I have everything to install a Super Six and split manifolds after the 4 speed conversion. Engine now has 10k on it and needs to be cleaned but it's been perfect so far.

Nice clean setup. Congrats!

Hardly bragging. Only showing what can be done, even on a very limited budget like mine. Since he's not responded back, I didn't know if he'd seen any of it or not so I posted it here as well. You've got a nice looking slant too.....and I've very sure you didn't post it to brag. Just like anyone else in the thread whose posted any pictures. We're all just trying to help the OP, so I don't know where the bragging thing came from.
