Frame Connector Question

Yup. Otherwise you will burn your car to the ground as you weld along the floor pans.

I have a set of USCARTOOL Frame connectors. Do I need to remove the interior and carpet to weld these in?

It’s also a real good idea to have a second set of eyes on the interior while welding even with the seats and carpet out.
A soaking wet moving pad on stand by isn’t a bad idea either.

OK...;so what is the punchline.
Yes heat will burn things. Temps high enough to melt steel, well above nylons burning point.
Low carbon steel melts @ approx 2500 ° Paper burns @451 °

Yes, remove it.

It also helps to stitch weld the seam starting the weld on the thicker subframe connector and then carry the weld puddle up to the floor sheet metal.

Another thing that I learned by the time I installed my second set is to grind and shape the connector as close as you can get it to the floor and then use a bottle jack to keep it held up in place with most of the car's weight car remaining sitting on its tires. I used a big rubber mallet to close the gaps between the subframe connector and the floor sheet metal even more once the whole thing was spot welded in place.

Exactly. The USCT connectors require a ton of welding. The better you get the fit the better the whole process will go. Also, you’ll want to wire wheel everything, the cleaner the floor is near the welds the easier it will be.

I like how they look, but I wouldn’t use them again unless the car was going on a rotisserie for the welding. Doing the welds with the car up on jack stands wasn’t worth it. I’d use tubular connectors like I did on my Duster. They work just as well and are significantly easier to install.
