Hey y’all, so the other day I was doing valve cover gaskets and clumsily broke off this little ground that goes to the passenger side head. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you referring to a ground wire bolt at the back of the head?

Ground it to the Intake bolt. Not specific to where it's grounded.to.

It was the one that goes to the intake bolt, accidentally said head. My real problem here is getting it re attatched to the wire, as it broke off of the wire, sorry for the miscommunication

Get a length of the appropriate gauge wire, crimp 2 ring terminals on it, bolt it on & run from it. LOL

How about we get more clear about this “ground wire”.
Pics or a better description?
Is it braded flat and silver ?
Is it big black and round?
Is it perhaps the size of a tooth pick with a 1/2 inch ring? LOL

If you don't have wire, ring terminals and crimpers at your house to make up a wire, just pick up the shortest battery ground cable they have at the parts store. And replace the one you have.

Couple of options.

ASSUMING.... you did not break off the bolt.

You could buy one from just about any auto parts store. 15" is long but I imagine you could get shorter.

Alternatly you could get a proper size crip connector for the wire gauge and bolt size and crimp on a new end.

I once read the ground strap is better than a cable. Less stress on the ring terminals as the motor is always moving.

Messing up bad is rolling the car out the garage after building the motor and finding a new main bearing shell on the floor......Doh!

The ring terminal broke off the wire? And you created a thread for that.

Be nice you can't know what you don't know! Lol

Exactly why I asked.....I'm unclear on WHAT he broke. If it's just the ring terminal and he makes a thread "I messed up bad" I'm worried.

Oh, and if it is the ground strap from the head / intake to the firewall it isn't 100% necessary. Good to have yes, but your car will still run without it.

If that's what it is, then it plug onto a threaded stud. All you need to do it strip about 3/8" of insulation off the wire and crimp a ring terminal on it and get a nut and lock washer the appropriate size and just bolt it on with the nut.

Thats the temp sending unit. You can buy replacement ends and splice it back into your wiring. The sender will look like this

Thank you guys for not hammering on a guy with what seems to be an easy fix. The fact you helped him out without calling him an idiot is why I've been a member here for so long. Let's keep him in the Mopar camp, no matter how simple the question seems to be. I have a kid in the 'hood with a '73 Duster he just bought. I feel like his grandpa sometimes, but at least it's not a clapped out '82 Camaro.

LOL. When I first read the OP I’m thinking this is going to be a mess. I couldn’t see his picture either so I was guessing.

Now that I see what he was talking about I’m a bit bummed. If that was my biggest electrical mess up I’d be as happy as a pig in poop. That was a nothing burger.

I’m glad he can fix it. And cheap too. I’d be glad that’s all he “messed” up. If that’s the worst that happens to him electrically he will have a long, long time in this hobby. Every time I open a hood I mess up way worse than that LOL!!

I might poke the stick a little, but we ain't car guys if that don't happen a little bit. Everybody's gotta start somewhere.
