Str-12-340 mentioned what I did on my old car.... Fire-sleeve! Ran most of my cable through that and never had a prob again. They had it in bulk at my local airport where my buddy was a mechanic
I had a couple of feet of this and put it on, and was able to get it to work as long as that stuff keeps it cool enough. I touched the outside to some coals burning hot in my wood stove before putting it on and it didn't leave a mark.
