Not always a bracket race....friend of mine in his F/SA 340 Barracuda 68 FB has two heads up races in the 1st Divisional Race in Vegas......1st one to the finish line wins

Yep, in a stocker meet it's like bracket racing unless they are in the same class, then it's heads up.
