How to interact with a police officer(s)

-
Wouldn't this ^^ be a prime example of abuse of power? Law enforcement enforce the law. If a person doesn't wave or look at a cop, what law did they break? If none, then it's pure egoistic and abuse of power, and actually against the law. This would make the cop a law breaker. If they went to court and said "i pulled this citizen over because they didn't wave" they would be dismissed of their duties.

P.S. - I'm not anti-cop. I'm only responding to the quote I quoted. Surprised I made it this far in this thread, actually LOL

And I didn't say not waving would get you pulled over, I said hiding yourself would...

We passed a fair number of cops on Saturday during our essential 70 mile trip to get to the grocery store that's 2 miles from the house! I just smiled and nodded at every officer that I made eye contact with. Plate stickers 2 years out of date and all... :D

What a lawless country you live in!..

Just kidding. I wasn't implying it was a hard and fast rule, but reasons to pick from if they so choose. My kid ran his valiant around town a weeks, with it not quite being, um.. kosher? Cops never said a thing aside form a thumbs up once in a while

That kid in MN got pulled over for expired tags ... thats a tax violation !
$120 bucks...
Does anyone know what his warrant was for ? Probably another unpaid ticket on a non-violent offense.
.
Court records show Wright was being sought after failing to appear in court on charges that he fled from officers and possessed a gun without a permit during an encounter with Minneapolis police in June.

You might think so, but the truth is, they can pull you over for anything they want really. Statistics are what they are. If he saw someone, a white guy, rolling around a industrial area late at night, but the person "did" nothing wrong and he moved along, the guy who gutted a women across town would have potentially gotten away.

What actually happened, was he saw a guy driving slowly though an industrial area late at night and pulled the guy over... The "murderer" was caught, end of story...

And, if you think a cop is going to get dismissed of his duties for this, you're dead wrong...
Facts:
  • Laws are written in the books. So, cops are not the law, just enforcers of the law.
  • A cop would be fired by any competent department if he harrassed a guy for not waving. No other issue, he just didn't wave. LOL
  • Citizens have more laws protecting them than the arresting officer has protecting him.
  • My brother was a sheriff deputy. I'm not against cops.
  • I'm out :)

No one said cops are the law.... wtf..

You go try to get a cop fired for saying someone looked suspicious, especially when the subject had actually JUST MURDERED SOMEONE.... Again, read what I wrote, not what you imagined I wrote...

So? My Dad was a really good Chef, I burn ramen noodles...

lol...

your facts are opinions... cya

You get arrested for NOT hiding your face. Mask are required, ever hear of COVID ?? LOL So, in the end, he did harass for not waving :poke:

No seriously, I know u want the last word, but I'm out :)

Seems he had multiple warrants

No, I want the correct word... nice try. And I am in small town TX, we don't' get arrested for not wearing a stupid mask...

Bwahaha, what a "cop" out...

My response to your so called "point" was to illustrate you know nothing of people intentions.
You asked why people gravitate to certain jobs, then proceeded to answer yourself in such a way that painted people in uniform in a bad light.... get a grip... Your post was an idiotic attempt at best to make those people out to be power hungry, serial killer, arsonists....

LOL
I was going to let it lay but you insist. I have Numerous friends in all three professions and we talk, to the person they all said what I described. So this is not my assumption but out of their mouths. All the cops are to a degree, arrogant, egotistical, have a dominant behavior, gung ho and have an attitude. BUT these are the very characteristics of what’s needed. I don’t want a wuss coming to help with some intruder.

LOL.... humorous yet spot on! Criminals don't "look" like criminals anymore. The big, bad, Harley rider just worked at "Toys-for-Tots", and Ted Bundy so well spoken, polite and well dressed was a serial killer.

You should have...

You said

"Firemen like fire, rescue people like blood and cops like authority."

I would like to think you are misinterpreting what they are saying, or they're talking big.

Firemen like fire and firemen like the rush of fighting fire are two very different things. One is an arsonist....

Rescue people "liking blood" and Rescue people being able to "handle blood" are two very different things. One is sick

Cops liking authority and cops who USE authority again, two very different things. One is an asshole.

People do things for various reasons, I never argued that. What I disagreed with is your way of stating that made it seem like all of the people in this professions, acted the way you describe...

Nice try.

I see many posts about being respectful of the autorities or you will deserve what you get .
I am curious about how you guys feel about the crowd that rushed the capitol or the Ammond Bundy gang that did an armed take over of a government building . How should they have been responded to and what penalties should be or should have been persued ?

I think it's all simple really ~ lets stick with getting pulled over: first and foremost, they know who you're supposed to be long before they approach you, so if you don't match the description or there is anything "hinky" going on in the cops mind, then he/she will already be on edge before they've said a word to you. They are doing their JOB and much like yourself, they just want their day to go as smoothly as possible so they can go home at the end of their shift. Cops are human, this means they have all the same crap in their lives that you do ~ bills, taxes, kids, moms, dads etcetera etcetera.
No matter what, if you're getting pulled over, there's a reason. You should immediately be on high alert and ready to do whatever is needed to get the situation resolved and over with without conflict. Some cops are just bigger assholes than others (pretty common in "civilians" too last time I checked) ~ accept the fact that for at least the next 10 minutes you are not in total control of the situation, but you do have the ability to control it's outcome to some degree.
You know who's afraid of the police? People who have done or are doing something wrong. Cops are trained to deescalate situations, but if you are going to insist on escalating ~ they are trained for that too. How it ultimately goes is way more about you than most people realize.

Really ? Where ? I could only find one that briefly mentioned it. That was the Cup of Coffee sticky.

I think its a legitimate question considering the title of the thread.

Are you a cop? Paramedic? Firefighter?
I’m two of the three. I love fighting fire. Fire has to happen before I get my adrenaline rush. That’s lust a fact. Massive trauma? Has to happen before i get pumped up for a major extrication scene. So yeah. I like fire. I like major trauma scenes. That has to occur for me to use the tools of my profession. I don’t wish il will to anyone. Like i use to instruct my crew, we didnt create the emergency, but we are there to make it better!

Seriously, do you LIKE the FIRE or what you get to do with it? You like to FIGHT fire, i get that, it's awesome. Do you LIKE the blood? Or what the presence of it means?

Seriously....

Oh, and I'm absolutely thrilled you love your job. More people need to do those jobs and do them well.

My hat's off to you.

You can’t have one without the other!

I find it hard to believe, but I'm not any of those things. I only know what my friends and relatives are like. My niece is an O/R nurse, doesn't mean she likes blood...
