I am getting ready to build a 69 340 for a friends 69 Dart. It is all number matching and leaving the stock exhaust manifolds on it. There are heat shields that cover the manifolds and go on just like a gasket would. Are these actually gaskets and does anyone reproduce them. The ones I have are intact but are showing there age. Also it appears to have been painted Turqoise what is the best paint to use that will hold up. Or does someone have a paint code that I can go and get some mixed up. I would rather use a HVLP spray gun and make it look better and more durable. That is what I normally use, I really don't like to use spray paint.

Not aware of repops.Seen some NOS around. E bay. On this site. Turquoise is a 69 340 factory color

I NEVER throw those things away- not even the 273/318 ones. Clean them up really well, straighten if necessary. The rolled "bead" is what seals it as a gasket, so if re-using I'll spray them with copper gasket sealer before installing.
As said, new ones are just stupid money for what they are, but you need 'em or it just won't look right. Note to re-poppers: easy money to be made here! Never could understand why the manifolds are repopped, but not the shields/gaskets.

make em stainless !!

If they aren't rusted up on the actual shield part, and will look awful when reused, just soak them in white vinegar for a day or 2. It will remove the surface rust, and you can paint them back turquoise.

I only remember a heat shield on the left side to protect the spark plug wires. It was on the engine when painted at the factory, as were the manifolds. The 2 69 340s I had were turquoise.
I have the honor of buying the last 340 shield in nationwide parts inventory about 1981. Dealer counter guy told me that when he looked it up in the computer. Think they shipped it in from the west coast.
