Vin tag decode help please

I know, but, with color combo, it's way too Halloween to me! I'd have to keep a car cover on it until it got painted! :lol:

Butterscotch and Black?
To Halloween?

Oh! The above tag is sitting on a red brick....

The butterscotch is a pretty rare color. (Bahama yellow on a plymouth, i think still in 71). Other than a very few mid eighties dodge trucks, i think a two year only color, 69 and 71. It is an acquired taste.
My friend and i have a standing bet: will we see more butterscotch cars or a66's like hers, at spring/fall flings. She has been winning last few years..... one or two el5 at most, no real a66.
I would definately keep the original colors on that car, but then i have a bahama yellow runner with a black hood, i may be a bit prejudiced.

I am staying with my theory of vinyl top stripped off then recently painted black.

Look how shiny the black top is compared to the scratched up faded out factory butterscotch color of the main body, suggesting the recent painting of the top.

You might take a close look at the chrome rear window trim to see if there are any auto body sand paper scratches in the chrome trim, or DA swirl scratches from where a DA sander bumped into it during paint prep work.

Under masking of the window trim with black paint running up on it is another telltail sign of a repaint.

Just my theory, have fun with the car.

As mentioned earlier, the tag decodes as a two-tone car. That is a painted roof from the factory, it may have been repainted but it is a factory painted roof car.

IDK what a “A66” is.
EL5 = Butterscotch correct?
I’m not a numbers guy. I have a 99.9% chance of never doing a restoration. If the vehicle doesn’t have the original drivetrain, I won’t do it. Close enough (date coded) isn’t good enough. For others it maybe fine and I’m OK with it, but not for me, for myself, my car it isn’t.

I am definitely keeping the original colors on that car!
Like I said earlier, how many original colors like this do you see on cars these days. Many people will change the color of the car to suite. I’m cool with that, no doubt. But I like the color and as well for its rarely seen aspect.

I actually like the two-tone paint scheme and the color combination. Remember that Dodge and Plymouth were really into eye-catching and eye-popping color schemes in the early 70s. I remember seeing a few two-tone paint jobs on Dusters along with the trim in place as a paint color separator.

Well, a trip to My MoPar .com yielded what was talked about.

Top line;
TX9 is the roof, black. The color chart just says X9. What is the “T” in the TX9? It’s also in the interior? On the second line line down, 3 over to the right.
U is a mystery
G33, OS standard remote mirror
R11 am radio @ 2 watts of whopping power.
......................... (Ahhhh! My ears!!!) ...........
V02, 2 tone paint treatment
EN2 end sales code

Second line on the tag;
EL5 is “Butterscotch for Plymouth and “ Bahama yellow” on Dodges. Both have the paint code of 2325.
L1XX unknown/not listed
TX9 interior color - *I Think.*
C10 not listed
Then 6 numbers that I have no idea about;
139196

Third line;
E24 - 225-1bbl 6cyl. 145hp (Whoa!)
D31 A-904, 3 spd
VL29 unknown
C1B unknown
And another 6 unknown digits;
246685

Can anyone else add to the unknown codes?

You know since you started the tag info search today, I have a 71 Duster in the wings waiting and I started decoding its tag. It has five lines of code and I found another decoder site.
Try Stock Mopar .com, and input by their instructions. I found some info that I couldn't find before. I like your two tone factory paint. Mine is a GA4 Winchester Gray with a Black vinyl top.
Good luck on your build.

C10 not listed. Your cars birthday (December 10,1970) the day it was scheduled to be built
Then 6 numbers that I have no idea about;
139196. Order number

Third line;
E24 - 225-1bbl 6cyl. 145hp (Whoa!)
D31 A-904, 3 spd
VL29 unknown. Duster coupe this is the vin
C1B unknown. Engine code, year, manufacturing plant, this is the vin
And another 6 unknown digits;
246685
Sequential number, this matches your vin

Can anyone else add to the unknown codes?

C1B would be engine code, year, and build plant, 5th 6th and seventh digit of the vin. ( and dodge was butterscotch, plymouth was bahama yellow.)
246685 is the last six of the vin.

The “U” on the fender tag indicates the car was built to US standards/requirements.

EL5 is a great color. Nothing wrong there at all.

T in TX9 is the year the color came out. So T is 1963. Remember we have EB5 which was 1969, and then GB5 which was 1971. Yes the first digit is very important. Because we also have DY3 Which is a plain tan color and Then GY3. Which is curious yella, a bright color.

L1XX is the interior trim code. It is the Black houndstooth bench seat.

The TX9 in the center of the tag is the upper door frame paint color. It is completely unrelated to the other TX9 which is roof color. They just happen to be the same color on this car.

WOW! I take a nap and go to work... ow on brake and the info just comes a flooding in!

Thanks to all!

@413 I did t know that the letter was a year designation.
@Princess Valiant Thanks there young lady. Ya did a killer job filling in some blanks for me. Thanks.
@H22A4 Thank ya there. USA!!!! Wooooo!!!!
@33IMP Same paint code two names.... hummm, I think I like the sound of butterscotch better... LMAO!
@Stephen Mulkey Thanks. This ought to take a while. This color combo should stand out some. Yours is pretty cool. Grey!?!?! & Black? Ya gotta post that one up.

Thanks again everyone! As you know, I know my way around a drive train and I’m pretty OK with electrical stuff, but this stuff I’m not, not even a clue.

I should revisit my ‘73 Cuda’s tag and build sheet.
I’m pushing forward on that one thanks to AMD’s sale.
2 rear 1/4 panels @ $77 each.

My wi fi is really on and off right now,( seems mostly off, lol) and my edit wouldnt post. Anyway, an A66 is a non-R/T 1970 340 challenger. Pretty rare car.

The C10 is the build date....December 10th. The VL29 C1B 246685 is the full VIN. It should match your dash tag and door sticker.

This is an a66 car, the R/T emblems were added because he didn’t understand what he had.

Five lines? I would like to see that tag. The Duster must be loaded.

The same exact thing happened to my friend's car before she got it. Had R/T emblems and stripes added, and has been wearing them for decades. Thats why she wont show it, gets ripped by judges for stuff she didnt do.
