How to interact with a police officer(s)

"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Fairbanks, Officer Kristine M. | Behind the Badge Foundation

i worked with her husband on procuring depredation permits, helping them catch elk poachers and timber thieves for a few years. A couple years after the attached event, I got a ticket at a boat ramp for not recording my halibut from a different DNR officer. The weather got bad and I ran back to port as fast as I could and just forgot. The following weekend I went to a new spot I had researched. I was totally alone out there and caught a nice flatty. I just harpooned it when something hit my boat. Out of nowhere it was officer Fairbanks checking to see what I was up to (15 nautical miles out). Hadn't seen him since his wife passed, but I, still a little sore about the previous ticket, yelled out, "Im glad to see you, but i haven't filled out my tag yet!" He just laughed and helped me get it in the boat.

I never saw him again and hadn't thought about their story until this thread came up. I am so glad to hear about their daughter! Best part of my day today.

There are not enough of their stories and the sacrifices they make for us. Ayn Rand once said that the primary function of government is the protection of our individual rights. Thank you officer Fairbanks, Godspeed wherever you are and thanks to all that serve.
