Weight loss and perseverance

As Steven Tyler sings "Pink is my favorite color" lol. I'm down to 247.8 as of this mornin. That's a solid 40 pounds gone since December 1st. Not to highjack or anything. lol
That’s great!

And I don’t consider folks sharing their journey and progress to ever be “highjacking”. If fact, I like know how others are doing and what their journey is like.

Thanks! ....and that was before I took my mornin dump so I'm probably a little lighter. lol

Well, we had a lot of wind last night and another small 14’ pine went down on the property line near where I cleared the one yesterday. Both trees were half dead, so it’s no surprise that this one went down too.

When I saw it down this morning, I wondered if I had it in me to tackle it after yesterday’s work. I figured I would at least try to see what I could do.

I had breakfast and then spent another afternoon sawing, hauling and digging out the stump. A few hours later and when it all was done...I wasn’t feeling much more tired than I did yesterday.

Goddamn! I do like feeling strong and capable again!

While I am sure I will feel it more tomorrow, I am very happy that I could go at it like that two days in a row. When I started this journey, just walking up the hill to look at it was about all I could handle for one day.

What a different World I am in now physically...and it feels great!

First off, congratulations.

I'm not overweight, but I have noticed a few things in my life that I feel are worth noting. I've been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit and have noticed eating habits and food wherever I have gone. To preface this...I'm not a doctor...and might be crazy or stupid.

I've noticed three major differences between us and the rest of the world. I don't know which one is MORE important, but I think they all play a part.

1. Corn!!!! Everything we eat has corn in it. Read the label. This is how we fatten up livestock!

2. Hormones! Girls around the world don't get their periods at 11yrs old like here. Also transgender issues aren't as prevalent.

3. This is a big one. Portion control. In the US we eat to get FULL! This isn't necessary. Other cultures eat to not be hungry. My wife is from Central Europe. She would never super size it...or order an extra thing off the menu because she "can eat it". You just need to eat till you're not hungry...not till you are full.

I apologise if I'm way off with this. I think that a lot of this is a cultural problem here. We are all victims to it, to one degree or another.

You're not off at all. Our food system is driven by control of market and greed. Even " organic" beef only has to graze grass for 1 week in its life to qualify. I've been on keto for over 3 years. I started it to drop 10 pounds I couldn't ride off on the mountain bike. Im 6'4" and 220 pounds. When i gained the 10 and went keto, after 4 days I was dropping almost a pound every other day. Gotta get past the sugar and carb craving, takes a few days. Faster if your exercising. I then lost another 17 pounds I didn't want to lose, keto really killed my appetite. I get my blood work done frequently, cholesterol still at 160, BP is stellar too. The biggest keto benefit by far for me was actually unexpected, inflammation was markedly reduced so all of my old injuries and aches are drastically reduced and I take far less advil. Ive also accomplished this life style with no gall bladder too which takes some adjusting with foods that promote bile, and spreading out my fat intake throughout the day. Can't say enough about coconut oil, it's the food with the most MCT in it which is an amazing fat. The only one that requires little to no digestion to be converted into energy and the only fat that spans the blood/ brain barrier- instant brain food.

Last weigh-in day of the month and I finally hit my original goal!

My new weight is 214.8 lbs making for a total of (drum roll)...

100 lbs lost!

Woohoo!!

It has been 42 months since I began, averaging a just about a 2.5 lbs per month loss rate. That equals a total 350,000 calories cut from my intake vs. burn rate at just 275 calories per day on average.

Now, onto the remaining task of shedding the last 30 lbs to hit my ultimate goal and rebuilding my body! Next target is to be under 200 lbs by the 48 month mark...

Remarkable. Great work !

That's fantastic Dave! I'm down to 245.4 now. That's 42.1 pounds of me missin. lol

Thanks guys!

Glad to see you doing so well too Rob!

I forgot to mention that Sparky the dog is hitting his goals too, his body mass is down 2.5% in 2 months. His goal is to lose a total of 15% body mass from where he started. That’s 6 lbs on a 40 lb dog. :)

Just under a week into the new Month and having hit my initial goal of losing 100 lbs, I have been studying my data logs and have decided to modify my approach a bit to hit my ultimate goal.

Back in mid-December I started using an electrical impedence meter to measure my body fat percentage (lbs) and “core” non-fat weight (total weight minus fat lbs=core weight)

Back then, my core weight was 149 lbs. Now, my total weight is down by 7 lbs, but my core weight is 153 lbs...up by 4 lbs. That means I have lost 11 lbs of fat (which is all I’m really trying to shed) but have also built muscle.

I extrapolated this and applied it to my ultimate goal of being 185 lbs and 15% body fat. I need to have a core weight of about 160 lbs at 185 lbs of total weight to hit my goal. This means I need to gain 6 lbs of muscle and lose 36 lbs of fat.

I find this enlightening and helpful for me to create a new perspective of my total body condition...and has also refocused my goals and efforts to achieve them. It also helps me to stop just being focused on the scale, and take a more holistic perspective of my journey.

It made me realize that where I set out to get to isn’t a number...it’s a condition of being.

Now, I have a new way of thinking about how to get there.

It’s halfway through the month and I have been quite active doing landscaping, hauling dirt, planting trees and mulching. My daily Step count is 50% higher now than it was last year at this time.

My weight has stayed the same as it was at the beginning of the month...but my body fat is down and my core weight is up. I can feel it in how my clothes fit and see it in the mirror.

My new core weight is 155 lbs (gain of 2lbs of muscle) and my body fat is down to 34 lbs left to lose (2 lb loss). My body fat is now at 29%.

Still going!

LOL! Actually he really likes the new diet. Lots more food to eat and doesn’t care that the calories are lower and he’s losing weight. He does love chowing down on the big pile of his favorite veggies in the evenings.

Kinda like you I suspect!

My big thing now at night is a plate full of fruit. I like mangoes, papayas, and a bunch of other "unconventional" fruits along with white grapes, cantaloupe, honey dew....and maybe some cheese hunks too.

Have any Star Fruit in there? My wife loves the stuff along with Kiwi. Strawberries are also in season now so the fridge is full of them.

Star fruit and dragon fruit are two I haven't tried yet.

I’m more of a veggie guy. Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Carrots, Bell Peppers (red, yellow and green), Green Beans, Yellow Wax Beans, Sweet Peas, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Iceberg Lettuce, Bean Sprouts, Asparagus, Cabbage, Snow Peas, Snap Peas, Beets, Kohlrabi, etc.

I eat a big bowl full of some kind (usually mixed) everyday. Gently sautéed with a little butter/olive oil and salt. Love the fresh sweet flavors and the crunch. In Summer, I like to add some fresh sweet corn too.

Satisfies my tastebuds and fills my stomach without loading calories. :)

My wife is a Doctor and we run a wieght loss clinic. What would you like to know? We have a 98% success rate, as defined by no wieght gain back in 5 years, and within 5% of goal wieght. Probably the main thing is doing away with most carbs and grains/sugar. There are some more complex underlying things like liver issues and hormone issues.

First weigh-in day of the new month. My body fat is now 28%. My core weight is 157 lbs (another 2 lb muscle gain) and my body fat is down to 32 lbs left to lose (another 2 lb fat loss).

Still going!

Oh, and Sparky the dog lost another 0.4 lbs this month...right on target. Woof!
