The other day a couple 70 340 Dusters came up for sale near me. A friend and I were lucky enough to get in and take a look. I was prepared to make a fair offer on one of the 2 cars but, by the time we got there the word was out and, the prices were going up by the second to the extent of being out of line. I left them my offers and number so, if something falls through they know where I'm at and, I can be there with cash that same day. I will leave this with you guys.

1) Green car- 340 3spd, 25,000 original miles. Untouched bought by current owner in 71 and parked in 74 or 75. This car is a time capsule and, still has the original tires on it.

2) Goldish car- 340 4spd 75,000 original miles. Its has some bubbles and very lite rust and, has had the drivers quarter replaced at some point. This car is very original also just not as nice as the green one.

Either way it was a cool find and something we probably won't see again.

If you didn't offer the current potential market value of the Green one then I would say that's a no go. The gold one looks to be something worthy also..... It all comes down to your numbers. Who knows, you may just get lucky.....

Mom had a 3sp manual in her 71. I can't remember if it was a teen or a slant. Reverse N pattern with me sitting ***** (no seat belt!) Rowing the 3 gears at 5 years old! I remember it had a black round engraved knob.

I made very fair offers. I also offered to put some of my own money into the green car to get it running, stopping and cleaned up to help them get the most out of the green one as long as we could come to terms on the gold one.

I like that idea. If I was the seller and thought you wanted the gold car and not for flipping purposes I would entertain that concept.... Work that angle....

So did you make the offer to the original owner? If so, did you ask the person why they never drove it after 74/75? I would just be curious why. It would have been nice to have gotten to see them! Thanks!
 
It's cool to actually see what my car's paint/exterior options would have looked like when it was new. Exact same paint and protective strip code V5X. super cool.

The owner said there was nothing wrong either one of them when parked. They had a 3rd one with a slant six but, it was gone a long time ago.

It was super cool to see this car in its original form. I found it interesting how you can see the brush marks in the factory lead seam where the quarter meets the roof skin, how clear the gauges are, how shiny the chrome on the dash is.....just an amazing car.

SIGhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... the only other duster that i know of in my town Is a 72. The cop who owns it used to street race with it in the 80s and now it is just in his garage waiting for a rebuild.

They didn't have an actual price. The owners are in their late 60's and, the wife was kind of running the show. She kept saying she was getting this offer than, getting another offer with a grin on her face. She was really getting off on all the interest these cars were getting and, I felt she was just playing people against each other. I wasn't going to play that game so i made my offers and, left it at that. She needs to be careful...she may just piss everybody off and those "offers" she was getting will be gone. Greed can blow up in your face.

I also tried to explain to her that all these offers from people who had not seen the cars won't stand up once they look at them. I told her these people will come and look then try and pick them apart to lower the offer. I also told her if she didn't get an offer of (a disclosed number) on the green car the way it sits then she should tell them to get off her property.
 
I can't say enough good things about the green car. The original trunk mat is nicer and more flexible than the new one i just put in my 71 Challenger. It still has the little covers over the tail lights. The jack looks like its never been out.

While you probably won’t divulge what you offered, having posted photos of the cars, which is super helpful for WIW questions, what do the members here think fair price is for those cars?

What the old lady thinks they might sell for is anyone’s guess so forget about that part.

If we want to do that let me give more info on the gold car.
Mice have eaten holes in the headliner, eaten the glove box liner. The seat is ripped, it has a rubber floor mat. The drivers quarter has been replaced probably sometime in the 70's and wasn't done real nice but probably par for the course in the 70's. Its got the wrong style trunk lid on it and hasn't ran since 91

The green one hasn't run since 74 or 75.

Care to disclose what kind of offers the seller was getting?

I'm fairly sure the site membership could collectively come up with a reasonable figure for the gold one (besides "what someone is willing to pay). Totally original, unmolested, mint condition, low mileage, factory performance cars, OTOH.....WSIWTP absolutely applies.
 
Hard to find survivors as such. They are in a class all their own. But they are survivors that require $ and work to bring them back to life again. Just cool.
Heck I am 73 and a survivor, just not cool!
 
I got word these sold as a pair for $30k. I told her when I made the offer to get the green one going again with my own money that I felt with it running, stopping and cleaned up that the green car alone had that dollar amount in it. My deal I offered would of gotten them more money but, water under the bridge now.
