If you could order any A-Body new? What if question.

I like the 68 GTS Dart cars and was surprised only a couple mentioned the 71 Duster 340.

I'm going to be a little different. I'm going with an early Valiant as my pick 64 or 65 Post with the 273 Commando Package with 4 speed, disk brakes, and sway bar. I know they didn't make the commando in 64 but this car below is about how I would want mine to look. These cars were built right. They have a light solid body with some nice lines.

I'd order a 68 Dart hemi car, in turquoise.
You can essentially walk into a dodge dealer and get the same car today, only better in every respect, a new redeye. All you need is money, just like i would have in 68.

74 Duster 360 in B5 blue with a black stripe- 4 speed, Bucket Seats, and a big crank open Sun Roof!

72 dodge demon 340, Y1 top banana yellow with black stripes black interior. Bucket seats, 4 on the floor.

Manual steering, manual brakes, dog dish hubcaps with body color steel wheels. Deluxe interior.

Late to the party, but the answer is easy because I already owned the car.
It was the car that got me into Mopars. I bought it used for $2500 in November '69, just a few months old...but the original owner had already added Cragar S/S wheels and an aftermarket wood steering wheel.

1969 340 Swinger
R4 Charger Red with white stripe
Black interior
727

Wish I still had it.

You realize this thread is almost 10 years old?
But to answer this question I would order the same car I bought new in 1971. A left over 1970 340 4speed Duster. Tor-Red, red bench seat interior. Oh and I’d like to pay the same price I paid back then $2805.00

From factory, 70-72 Duster 340 never got dual scoops or any scoops.

But they’re common and easy to add them. And look very natural. So much so people think they were available originally.

I understand we’re dreaming a bit here and there are some “what-if” combinations thrown out here.

11 years old!, but your car is a great choice, and I absolutely agree with the price! Besides the post may be old, but picking our dream cars never gets old!

1970 Dart GT, 340 4 speed, a/c, power steering, manual disc brakes, buckets and console, 3.55 sure grip diff, rallye wheels, either in copper with a black interior, similar to the first Dart I owned, (which was a 70 GT), or F8 green with and F6 green interior, like the one I built. No stripes or go wings, but a twin scoop hood.

This one would be another good candidate too, came up for sale today for $38,900 CAD.

Instead of fantasy - how about reality ?

I DID factory order a brand new 1970 Plymouth Duster 340 in B7 Jamaica Blue Metallic, stripes delete, protective body side moldings, B5 / B7 interior, Deluxe Interior with Decor Group, Bench seat with center arm rest, 3.55 Sure Grip, 727 automatic, AM radio, Heavy duty battery and cooling, Light Group, Heavy duty electrical system, GoodYear Raised White Letter tires.

$2,840 delivered price...Took delivery of car in June 1970, I was 19 years old working for United Parcel Service and attending college... I was lucky in that I had an older brother working as a car salesman at a large Chrysler Plymouth Dodge dealership so I had access to all the dealer factory ordering materials to build the exact car I wanted via factory order.

Wanted a 4 speed car but the insurance rates for a 19 year old male driving a 4 speed were absolutely impossible.

The base no option 1970 Duster 340 was well equipped with standard equipment for $2,547 MSRP ---- manual disc brakes, rally road wheels, E70 - 14 tires, true dual exhaust with rear turndown pipes, rallye gauge package, heavy duty suspension with front sway bar, full longitudinal and transverse stripe package, 340 V-8 Four Barrel, 8 3/4 rear axle with 3.23 ratio - all standard equipment.

Chrysler had constraints throughout the 1970 model year where you could not order some options - for example the Super Axle Package was generally not available - only available via factory order for a very narrow window of the model year therefore it was not generally seen on most 1970 Duster 340s.... it was generally reserved for 4 speed cars.

Sold the car in early 1973 to pay for college tuition ... Don't know what ever happened to the car ....

I wound up putting a set of Hedman headers on my new 70 340 4 speed Duster. Of course I threw those worthless Hp manifolds away! Later I put a 3310 780 Holley on it that was $49.95 new. I also put a Mallory dual point and a 4.30 gear in it. I had the rear ralley wheels widened 3” and ran JC Penny J-60 Scat Tracs on the rear. That was one fun car.
