I was "318", when 318 wasn't cool......

Clearly you know very little about a 318 if you think they are unique vs the other la engines. They share pretty much everything except bore size with the 340!

nah, i get all that
my point is, why bother with a 318 if you can build a 360?
(and ill say the same for the 340 vs 360 debate, but thats a different argument)

I like 318s they have a ton of potential for cheap and are everywhere easy to find and cheap. I have 3 360s 4 if you count the one in my dart but my next build is gonna be a mean 318!

I know that the reason for the slant was to obtain a lower hood and fender line. But the old slantie is a very reliable engine. I’ve seen it in everything from gensets to combines
My mother had a 76 (I think) Dart with a 225. We beat the hell out of that motor. It was pig slow but just wouldn't quit. It was like, "Change the oil? Why, there's still some in it."

That's the "no brainer". But what if someone wants to use brains???? :poke:

It's all about the "cool" factor... IT'S HIP !!!

Thought Chrysler bought the slant 6 design from General Motors. I could be wrong. But thought I read that somewhere.

Never heard of read that. The slant 6 was a clean slate design staight from Chrysler, as far as I knew.

@slantsixdan will tell us for sure, though.

I dunno man I still say saying "318" when really the only thing 318 is the short block is a bit deceiving...and Ill clarify by saying short block means the block and crank...I pretty sure UTG is dickering around with a whole stock 318 with a cam and 4 barrel and that's it but I am not 100% on that. He's probably the most genuine in this "318s are cool " campaign.

If it still displaces 318 cubic inches, then it's a 318.

If it doesn't, then it isn't.

From the deck down right? the argument in the other thread is how much power they make I am like yeah once you get them as close to a 340 as possible the way this is going is folks will start tearing parts off a 340 to make a "powerhouse 318..." I don't doubt it for a second ,one day there will be a guy with "just the block with mains , thrust plate and oil pump from a 340 for sale..." "what happened to the resto of it?" ..."Oh some feller down the street gave me two grand for the heads, cam, and crank for his 318..." LOL! :)

 My 318 Duster still has the stock heads, valves, pistons, crank, rods, block, and all the factory rod bearings, cam bearings, crank bearings AND the ORIGINAL 318 oil pump!!!! Besides,, he admitted bottle rocket was his first time down 318 lane!!! Me, I was 318, when 318 wasn't cool.... :poke:

I have known some long long time mopar mechanic/engine builders that will argue about the GOOD of the 318 vs 360.

Not everyone has deep pockets for their "baby", some like to make something good out of something others just throw away, etc.

Maybe Mopar diversity is good.

.
I refer you to post number 13.

Performance isn't tied to the "Cool factor". LOL. I've never seen so many threads, new youtube videos, and chatter about "318's" as the last 3 years. More threads and videos on 318's than 408's.... "Got yer Chrome Shades yet?" :D :D :D

I personally do not equate "maximum performance from the platform" with either "fun" or "cool".

Yeah UTG is ok but correct me if I wrong didn't he "speculate" 10s with that B body and a 318? even in 1/8 mile that's slow IMO. I've had B bodies and I wouldn't go no less than a 383 in one of them.

"35 years of being shunned, uninvited all due to my car having a 318. And now, just this morning, I was offered 5 digits for my username rights on this site.... "
