I would like to convert the '65 Formula S parking brake factory cable setup to something similar to later ABodies that use a single cable under-chassis setup. I read somewhere on FABO where a couple of forum members had the know-how or saw this on their own vehicles, maybe Dusters (but I don't remember who it was or what thread(s) made mention of it). Evidently, the factory used this system in later models.

Anyone have a lead on what I am referring to? Thank you.

I thought the early A cable setup was pretty simple already.

I did that on my 64 Barracuda.
Simple, just get a kit off Ebay for the 67-71 Dart from inline tube.

In over 50 years of driving, I cannot remember ever using that dang thing. So on my car at least, it is just dead weight. But I digress.

I like the 3-piece system on my 68 Barracuda, cuz each piece can be independently replaced easier and cheaper after they seize up from lack of use.

Received the later model version ('67 & up) parking brake cable kit from Uline. I began adapting it the the '65 Formula S today. Just one doubt I have left. The long cable that attaches to the passenger side rear drum must be secured in two or three places. I see an unused clip on the tube of the differential (passenger side) which appears to be ready made for it (photo #1). There is also a clip/tab on the new cable which must attach to the underbody somewhere (photo #2). I would like to verify for sure where I should set that clip?

Then over by where the rear rubber hose connects to the metal brake line, there is an adjacent unused (for now) hole with a Tinnerman/speed nut (smack dab center of photo #3). I was wondering if the factory used that threaded hole as a third attachment point for the same parking brake cable? Thank you.

Hey Dibs, sorry to take a left turn here, but after I had frame connectors welded to my '66, we drilled/reamed a hole for the front cable to go through the frame connector on the driver's side. I found the front cable needs to be just a little longer. When I pull the parking brake handle, the union of the cables hits the inner side of the frame connector and won't completely pull the cable tighter.
If I park on a level lot, it's fine, but on a slanted driveway, she wants to roll. (In the meantime, I just put it in gear.) Have you run into this yet?

I ran into this issue on my 66. My remedy was to clamp the 'union' piece in a vise to narrow it up a tad. I have plenty of clearance now.

The clamp on the passenger side cable gets attached to one of the center cover bolts.
