North Dakota Mopar find

-
It won Peoples Choice at a local car show last year. I guess people appreciated its originality.

What a fantastic story, I'm thrilled for you, and soooooooo jealous! I wouldn't change anything other than what you have other than safety related items, it's only original once. Drive it, enjoy it, have fun with it. I would love to find something like that one day, but not many of us are fortunate to find a great car like that, my luck I wouldn't be able to put together the cash if one came along.:(

Never say never Linc. I had the same mindset and things worked there way out. I like to think its Mopar Karma.

Not sure if any of you have seen my Demon restore posts. There's a real cool story there also about that Demon.

Congrats Rob. What a great find and score. The Charger is beautiful. Always good to find friends in the country. Hope to see you at drag strip next summer.

I grew up in ND (Mandan) and it always amazed me how we would find old muscle cars throughout the state.

Awesome story, I liked the funky seat covers and mags but it looks amazing, congrats! There are lots of MoPars hiding in ND, I know of a couple Hemi cars and the owners sound too sell them, just drove them a couple times a year and enjoyed them!

Im an all original type guy also but, i have to admit the velore seat covers were cool. The cragars also. Good for you. Congrats

I am originally from Minot, N. Dakota. A friend of mine there also had a yellow Charger. I am pretty sure it was a '68, however. That is one hell of a find, and quite a story. I have considered selling my '69 Road Runner of 26 yrs. It has a new 440 in it, also have #'s match 383 engine with Hemi 4 speed trans. Congratulations on the Charger !

Not sure if this is where I should share this so I'll put it here. Let me know if there is another forum more suitable.
I haven't posted on here much for quite a few years, work got in the way. It is deer season in ND and it made me think about the Mopar find I made while hunting. A friend and I were out looking for tree rows to push in North Central ND and not having much luck when he asked me if I'd mind stopping by his friends farm to say hi. Since the hunting wasn't going well I figured what the he'll. We arrived at his friends farm and it was unseasonably warm for mid November in ND. As we were BSing I looked over at a small garage type building back behind the guys house and the door was open. It looked like there was a Mopar parked in there so I asked if he would mind if we walked back and take a look. He said sure. As we walked back to the building he started explaining that his high-school car was parked back there. When we got to the building, I could see the taillights of a Charger. We walked into the building and there was a 1969 Charger. I was shocked at the condition and asked how often he drove the car and he told me that he drove it maybe once a year for the past 20 years. He said that the tires were starting to dry rot so it hadn't been driven in a few years, just started it occasionally. For the next couple of hours we talked about the Charger and my passion for Mopars. I asked him about the Cragar rims on the car and he said he bought them brand new from Sears in the early 80s. He explained how he put the original rims in his basement and they were still in the same spot he put them in the 80s. He talked about how the drivers seat cover started to split at a stitched seam so he had some crushed velvet inserts made but he saved the original inserts and they were in his basement also. He said he looked for the build sheet when he had the seats out and didn't find one. I asked if he had ever checked behind the glove box. He said no, he didn't know that was where they were occasionally put. I asked him if I could check and he said go for it. I reached up behind the glove box and felt a piece of folded paper taped to the back. I asked him if he wanted me to try to carefully remove it and he said he'll yeah. So I carefully tugged at the tape and got it to come loose from the back of the glove box. We opened the paper and there was the build sheet in sunlight for the first time in over 40 years. We were both super excited to see it and he said he felt like he was a kid at Christmas. He asked if I would like to see it out in the sunlight and I said of course. I helped him get it started with a jump pack and some gas in a jar and he backed it outside. Wow...an original paint 1969 charger idling right in front of me. I couldn't stand it anymore and asked him if he'd consider selling the car. He said that he couldn't sell it because it was his high school car and he had owned it so long. I asked for his phone number so I could keep in contact with him. When he parked the Charger and closed the garage door I was pretty bummed. But then he said, he knew where to find deer and they were on his property and he would show me and my buddy where to go and allow us to hunt it. We were able to flush some deer and fill our tags but I couldn't get that Charger out of my mind. Here's a couple of pictures from that day 5 years ago. There's more to this story. Let me know if anyone wants to hear more.

I grew up in Minnetonka MN and a guy I knew bought a 69 427 Impala SS 4 sp out of N Dakota in 1980. Damn that car was fast ! I had my 70 Charger with 383 magnum which was no match for it ..

Thank you...I'm looking forward to the weather cooperating so I can drive it for the 1st time in 2021.
