put a 340 in a 1963 dart have no room for headers or manifolds, has any one ever put there headers on the other side ,like drivers on pass side, vice verse ,face to the front ? is it possible need help ?

What manifolds are you trying to use?

you can fit dougs headers in there or 340 manifolds. If you have never done this before its going to be a pain , but once you know how it goes together it will be easy. also important is what motor mounts are you using- assuming you are using the Schumacher ones. You got to use the mini starter. I have also run 340 manifolds in early a's no problem. You have to typically get a jack under there with a piece of wood to lift up on one side of the motor high enough to give your self some room. Plus you need to remove the steering shaft from the box . May even be helpful to drop the pitman and idler arms. For dougs headers on the passenger side you must drop the idler arm and use a mini starter and remove the steering shaft out of the way.

This is all assuming you did not do any other mods to the rest of the car for the transmission

Those manifolds should work they did on my 66 and a double gasket. 273 gasket on the manifold side and 360 gasket on the head side.

The 63 body is different than 64 up. The 64' 273 manifolds will fit, but the firewall is too small to accommadate the standard Distributer/cap
you need a Marine type mopar distributer and cap to clear the firewall.

The 273 exhaust manifolds are a bit restrictive for a 340, especially with 340 heads. Many people have had problems keeping a gasket from blowing out on those too.

I agree, it is like running a two inch water line into a 1 inch adaptor.

Well, maybe not quite that bad, but, it's a bit of a bottleneck at higher RPM's. The mismatch on the ports sizes causes some flow problems too.

I was mildly jesting, but I can say with a 68 X head there will be far more exhaust wanting to leave versus what can leave.Lol

thats what i was worried about there a good set of ported J heads, may be i will just put the fenderwell headers on and forget it

does any one have a hooker fenderwell header diagram [shows were, and how big to cut holes in inter fender ] or a site ,were i can find it ,i went on hooker site, couldnt find it, putting fenderwell hooker headers on a 63 dart with 340 thanks

Don't follow that template. You'll have a hole 2x what it can be. Put them in before your motor and wire them outboard and drop the motor in. It will be very tight but you can get it in there. The best way is to cut a hole and get the front end up. Put the collector in the hole and "screw" the header into the hole, noting where you need to cut so you can just get it in there. Look at some old pics to determine minimum hole size and plan on making a form cut cover that you can screw onto the fender to keep the hole covered. Ir should be available from a member here or online in pdf to maintain dimensions.

Try and fit $40 RAM exhaust manifolds backwards. They are bigger and flow better than 273 manifolds. Sweep the exhaust back. The heads won't care what way the exhaust moves out. You may have some interference with power steering pump or alternator belt.

Or modify the firewall. Those cars were designed for slant 6's only.
