I grew up on Budweiser(cheap) then Yuengling lager, at around 1999 I was into Heineken, then Sam adams Boston lager in the 2000s was the first "craft" type beer for me. Now there are so many local breweries around that are just great. I am in Pa and a few local favorites are Sly Fox brewery and Yards in Philly. I usually pick up "variety pack" 12 packs cant go wrong with any of them.
