Hey, all. The previous owner backed into something with a little bit of force and knocked the right side of the rear bumper in. I was wondering what the procedure would be on getting it kicked back out. The bumper is still in good shape.

Also, does anyone have a right tail light bezel they would want to sell me cheap? And are the gaskets necessary for reinstalling the bezels and tail lights? Do you put some sort of shellac or sealant on them when tightening them up?

Thanks, everyone! This forum has been awesome at answering my questions!

You could replace the bumper shock or just use a porta power to push it out. Pulling on the bumper might bend it.

I would see if the energy absorbing shock is available & replace it. The one you have is probably toast & pulling on it will probably destroy it. The other option would be to fab some brackets to replace the shocks. Just my .02.

Is it the bumper that is deformed or the mounting stuff ? I'd remove it and have a good look around before I started banging or pulling on anything.

I can't fab anything... yet. I don't have a welder. The bumper is fine. No bends or warps. I was curious if I just pull the bumper off, could I just hammer out that shock to get it back to the same length as the left handed side and put the bumper back on, easy peasy.

If I don't have a portapower, would a local garage have one that I could pay them a bit for them to pull it out? I haven't been able to find any replacement bumper shocks anywhere. I'm trying to keep my budget next to nothing right now.

You can likely drill the shock, unbolt the bumper, hook the shock directly to something rigid, pull until shock-re-extends, and then have a buddy tack the shock in place with a bit of weld.

Or the cool-guy method is to drill both, compress both shocks until you like the bumper/body lines, and THEN tack both in place ::D

Dont pull the bumper off just find someone with a porta power to spread the shock back out to the length it needs to be. If you were local I would do it for you. Do not drill a hole in it either it has a highly flammable oil in it and had a gas charge from the factory. It is simple and a 5 minute job with a porta power.

There's a DIY garage not too far away that probably has one. I'll head that way as soon as the car is running. Thank you!
